Massive Forest Fire in Udhampur Jammu Continues to Rage

A massive fire erupted in the Bali-Tirchi forest range in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district, continuing to rage due to strong winds on Wednesday.

The fire began in compartment number 67 of the Bali-Tirchi forest range and rapidly spread because of the strong winds, eventually reaching ward number 2 of Upper Bali panchayat.

Officials reported that two houses were completely gutted, and two others were partially damaged by the blaze.

Upon receiving information about the fire, personnel from the forest department, a team from the SDRF, the Indian Army’s Defence fire service, and the NDRF rushed to the scene.

Efforts to control the flames are ongoing, but strong winds continue to fuel the blaze, officials stated.

Udhampur Forest Division Range Officer Sanjeev Khajuria reported that the forest fire broke out between 2:30 pm and 3:00 pm in compartment number 67 of the Udhampur Forest Range.

“After receiving the information, our teams rushed to the spot and initially managed to control the blaze. However, strong gusty winds in the evening caused the fire to spread rapidly to a residential area, resulting in two houses being completely damaged and two partially damaged,” the Range Officer explained.

He added that personnel from the forest department, Forest Protection Force, SDRF, Indian Army, and the fire and emergency department, along with local residents, are working hard to control the blaze.

Historic Shrine of Hazrat Syed Baba Naseeb ud Deen Gazi in Eidgah, Sangam Set Ablaze: Community in Mourning and Protest

Today, the entire Shahar Khass area, home to the Hanafi Sufis, mourned and protested after the tragic and shocking incident of the holy shrine of Hazrat Syed Baba Naseeb ud Deen Gazi, located near the Hanafi Jamia Mosque Sangam in Eidgah, Srinagar, being set on fire. Prominent Tasawuf scholars such as Renzushah, Adil Noorani, Ab. Ahad Makhdoomi, and thousands of devoted followers rushed to the shrine after the incident.

Protesters chanted slogans demanding justice for past attacks on religious sites, including the 1962 theft of Moi e Muqadas, the burning of Chrar Sharief Gousul Azam shrine, and other incidents, particularly the recent destruction of the Hazrat Reshi Gazi shrine.

The entire holy edifice, including the Roza Sharief Sanctum Sanctorum and valuable religious and Tasawuf books, was destroyed in this fire, which is believed to be the work of enemies of Tasawuf. A previous attempt to set the shrine on fire occurred just before Eid, but a devotee detected it, and local residents managed to control the blaze.

Local authorities, including the Sajadah Nisheen, the president of the shrine, and the Imam of Hanafi Jamia Mosque, reported the incident to the police, and an FIR was lodged. Prominent Sufi scholars, including Farooq Renzushah, chairman of Jamaat Aitqaad Hanafiya International, Mirwaiz Adil Noorani, and other leaders, gathered at the shrine to offer prayers and called for the protection of all Sufi shrines in Kashmir.

During their visit, they were shown the front door of the sanctum, which had been previously targeted. Despite their efforts, the perpetrators succeeded in setting the entire shrine and two sacred Chinar trees on fire. The incident brought the Shahar Khass area, especially Eidgah, to a standstill as a large number of devotees rushed to the scene.

In their addresses, Khwajah Farooq Renzushah, Mirwaiz Adil Noorani, and Abdul Ahad Makhdoomi described the incident as a severe tragedy and highlighted the ongoing threats to Sufi shrines in Kashmir since the 1962 theft of the holy relic. They urged the public to remain peaceful and called on the administration to apprehend the culprits and ensure justice, criticizing past efforts to cover up similar incidents.

Renzushah pointed out the lack of accountability for previous attacks, including the failure to identify those involved in the 1962 Hazratbal Conspiracy and the promotions given to officials implicated in past incidents. He also cited the twice-targeted Dastageer shrine and other shrines that have been attacked, emphasizing the need for thorough investigations.

He recounted a personal attack in 2012 when he was targeted after displaying a holy relic at the Dastageer Sahib Saria Bala shrine. The destruction of other historical religious sites was also mentioned, highlighting the lack of action by authorities.

Despite the efforts of distinguished personalities to maintain peace, there was surprise and disappointment at the absence of the Waqf Board’s Vice Chairman since the attack. The Ulmas criticized the Waqf Board for failing to install CCTV cameras at the shrine despite its substantial income and assets.

The community demanded an urgent investigation to identify and bring the culprits to justice, stressing the need to address radical ideologies that have led to such heinous acts against religious sites in Kashmir.

Eid al-Adha: Celebrating Faith, Sacrifice, and Community

Today, millions of Muslims globally observe Eid al-Adha, a major holiday in the Islamic calendar. Known as the “Festival of Sacrifice,” this day honors Prophet Ibrahim’s (Abraham) willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail (Ishmael) in obedience to God. The day is filled with reflection, communal prayers, festive gatherings, and charitable acts.

Eid al-Adha’s Origins

The roots of Eid al-Adha lie in a story from Islamic tradition. The Quran narrates that Prophet Ibrahim dreamt God commanded him to sacrifice his son, Ismail. Both father and son, in profound faith and submission, agreed to fulfill this divine command. However, at the moment of sacrifice, God provided a ram to replace Ismail. This narrative underscores faith, obedience, and trust in divine wisdom.

Traditions and Rituals

Eid al-Adha celebrations commence with a special prayer, Salat al-Eid, performed in congregations at mosques or open prayer grounds. A sermon follows, highlighting the holiday’s significance, the essence of sacrifice, and the importance of aiding the less fortunate.

A central ritual is the Qurbani, the sacrificial slaughter of an animal, typically a goat, sheep, cow, or camel. This act commemorates Ibrahim’s sacrifice and symbolizes the willingness to surrender something valuable to God’s will. The meat is divided into three parts: one third for the family, one third for friends and relatives, and one third for the needy. This practice reflects charity and community spirit.

Family and Community Gatherings

Eid al-Adha is a time for families and communities to unite. Following prayers and Qurbani, families gather for festive meals, sharing the sacrificial meat alongside various traditional dishes. The day is marked by joy, gratitude, and strengthened family bonds.

Children often receive gifts and new clothes, enhancing the festive mood. Visiting friends and family, exchanging “Eid Mubarak” greetings, and extending hospitality are key elements of the celebrations. These interactions bolster social ties and emphasize generosity and compassion.

Charitable Acts

Charity is a cornerstone of Eid al-Adha. Beyond distributing sacrificial meat, many Muslims donate to charitable organizations and initiatives. This generosity ensures that even the less fortunate can join in the celebrations, embodying the Islamic principles of brotherhood and mutual support.

Global Observances

Eid al-Adha is celebrated worldwide, from the busy streets of Indonesia and Pakistan to the quiet villages of Africa and the Middle East. Despite cultural variations, the holiday’s essence remains consistent, reflecting the unity of the Muslim Ummah (community) in faith and practices.

In countries with significant Muslim populations, Eid al-Adha is a public holiday, with schools, businesses, and government offices closed to allow for celebrations. In non-Muslim-majority countries, Muslims often take time off to observe the holiday, gathering in mosques and community centers for prayers and festivities.

Conclusion

Eid al-Adha is a profound reminder of faith, sacrifice, and community. It commemorates a pivotal religious event and reinforces the importance of charity, compassion, and unity. As Muslims celebrate this holy day, they uphold Prophet Ibrahim’s legacy of unwavering faith and the timeless message of selflessness and devotion. Eid Mubarak to all who are celebrating!

BJP Kupwara Protests Reasi Terror Attack, Calls for International Action Against Pakistan’s Support for Terrorism

The BJP unit in Kupwara, led by District President Javid Qureshi, organized a protest in Handwara on Friday in response to the recent Reasi terror attack. The protest saw a substantial turnout of local BJP members and residents, who marched from Qureshi’s residence to Main Chowk Handwara under heavy security.

During the protest, demonstrators held a symbolic funeral procession for Pakistani terrorists Hafiz Syed and Azhar Masood. The participants loudly condemned Pakistan’s involvement in sponsoring terrorism in Kashmir, chanting slogans like “Pakistan end sponsored terrorism in Kashmir” and “Pakistan ka matlab bomb, barood aur Ka.”

At the end of the procession, effigies of Hafiz Syed and Azhar Masood were burned. Speaking to the media, Javid Qureshi emphasized the severe impact of terrorism on the people of Kashmir, stating that residents have endured immense damage and loss due to ongoing terrorist activities and can no longer bear such hardships.

Qureshi called on the international community to isolate Pakistan, highlighting the significant loss of life and suffering in the Kashmir Valley due to Pakistan’s support for terrorism. He urged global powers to take a strong stand against Pakistan to curb the spread of terrorism in the region.

Additionally, Qureshi expressed a firm belief that India should take decisive action regarding Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK), asserting that it rightfully belongs to India. He expressed confidence in the Modi government, citing its history of achieving difficult tasks, and hoped that the current administration would take necessary steps to reclaim POK and end the terrorism that has plagued the region for so long.
