AIP President and MP Er Rashid’s Interim Bail Hearing Deferred Again, listed for Tomorrow

The interim bail hearing of incarcerated MP and AIP President Er Rashid, scheduled for today, was deferred once more as the Hon’ble Judge remained on leave.

Chief Spokesperson of AIP, Inam Un Nabi, a close confidant of Er Rashid, confirmed that the hearing has now been rescheduled for tomorrow, December 13, 2024. He expressed concern over the repeated delays but remains hopeful for justice.

“AIP is steadfast in its support for Er Rashid and will continue to fight for his rights. We urge all his supporters to keep him in their thoughts and prayers as we await tomorrow’s proceedings,” Inam Un Nabi stated.(KNS)

The Ministry of Home Affairs has promoted Syed Javaid Mujtaba Gilani, IPS, to the Director General of Police (DGP) Grade, following the recommendations of the Screening Committee during its meeting on December 20, 2023.

The order states: “In pursuance of the recommendations of the Screening Committee in its meeting held on 20.12.2023, and with the approval of the Competent Authority, Shri Syed Javaid Mujtaba Gilani, IPS (AGMUT:1994), is hereby promoted to the DGP Grade (Level-16 IN THE PAY MATRIX) with effect from the date of assumption of charge.

Syed Javaid Mujtaba Gilani, a 1994-batch IPS officer from the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territories) cadre, has held numerous key positions in law enforcement and public administration.

He has served as Inspector General of Police (IGP) in Jammu and Kashmir and has been instrumental in counter-terrorism operations and maintaining law and order throughout his career. (KNS)

A man from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) was apprehended after he illegally crossed over into the Indian territory along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Thursday.

“One PoK national Saliiq son of Khalid resident of Bandi Abbaspur deliberately crossed over into Indian Territory. Alert troops of the Indian Army deployed on the Line of Control in the Gulpur sector apprehended the PoK national while he was illegally crossing into Indian Territory,” the Poonch Police said.

Further investigation is underway and more details are awaited.

Earlier on Wednesday, security forces in a joint operation unearthed a cache of arms and ammunition in the Lapri area of Mahore, Reasi district.

Based on credible intelligence, a search operation was conducted, leading to the discovery of a hideout with a large amount of arms and ammunition including, one AK-47 rifle, three AK-47 magazines, two Pistols (along with magazines), 511 AK-47 rounds, 14 Pistol rounds, four hand grenades and a backpack, added the police statement.

The seized items have been secured, and further investigations are underway to trace the origins of the recovered arms and to identify any links to terrorist activities.

The security forces remain vigilant and urge citizens to report any suspicious activity to the authorities. (ANI)

A truck driver was killed while as it’s conductor was injured after the vehicle fell into deep gorge at Margan top area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Officials said that a truck carrying bricks from Anantnag to Warwan lost its control at Margan top and fell into deep gorge.

Soon a team of police and locals rushed to the spot to rescue the driver and conductor. Both where shifted to nearby hospital, however driver of the truck was already declared brought dead, where as the conductor is being treated at the hospital.

Meanwhile, police have registered a case in this regard and investigation has been taken up.(GNS)

Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari assumed the charge of Joint Director Information Kashmir on Wednesday.

Deputy Director Information & PR, Ahsan ul Haq Chishti; Cultural Officer, Burhan Hussain and other senior officers extended warm welcome to the incoming Joint Director Information and congratulated him on assuming the charge of the department.

After assuming the charge, Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari held an introductory meeting of the officers and officials of different units of the department, and also took first hand appraisal of the functioning of the department.

On the occasion, the JD emphasised the importance of teamwork and urged the staff to work collectively to enhance the department’s outreach and efficiency in delivering its objectives.

The residents of Beerwah town are facing immense difficulties due to the absence of heads in various government offices, including the Tehsil office, Municipal Committee, and R&B division. The offices have been without heads for the past few months, causing inconvenience to the public.

The Tehsil office, which is responsible for handling revenue-related matters, has been without a Tehsildar since June.Residents are facing problems in getting their revenue-related issues resolved, including registration of land, issuance of certificates, and mutation of properties.

Similarly, the Municipal Committee, which is responsible for providing basic amenities like sanitation, water supply, and streetlights, has also been without Executive Officer since few months. Residents are facing problems in getting their grievances redressed, including complaints about poor sanitation, water scarcity, and faulty streetlights.

The R&B division, which is responsible for maintaining roads and bridges, has also been without an Executive Engineer since two months. Residents are facing problems in getting their roads and bridges repaired, which is causing inconvenience to commuters.

The residents of Beerwah town are frustrated with the situation and are demanding that the government fill up the vacant posts immediately. “We are facing immense difficulties due to the absence of heads in these offices,” said a resident. “We are not able to get our revenue-related issues resolved, our grievances are not being redressed, and our roads and bridges are not being repaired. We urge the government to fill up the vacant posts immediately.”

The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) concluded a two-day program on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act, organized by the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) in collaboration with the Dean of Students. The program, themed “Preventing Sexual Harassment of Women at the Workplace,” aimed to raise awareness and foster a safer environment for all.

The event featured a poster competition and exhibition on the program’s theme, which saw enthusiastic participation from both male and female students. The best posters were awarded, and all participants were felicitated for their contributions.

A special session on POSH sensitization and awareness was also conducted, during which the Chairperson of ICC, Dr. Munejah Khan, Dean of Students, Dr. Asifa Baba, ICC members Dr. Shabana Nargis and Dr. Zahida Rasool, and Dean Outreach Dr. Ruheela Hassan interacted with students. They underscored IUST’s commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against sexual harassment.

Suspected Explosive Defused on Handwara-Baramulla Highway

Security forces successfully defused a suspected explosive device discovered in a bag near the forest office along the Handwara-Baramulla highway in Langate on Wednesday.  

Officials told KNS, that the suspicious bag was spotted by locals, who promptly alerted the authorities.A bomb disposal squad was dispatched to the scene and safely defused the device. (KNS)
