Qadir Reshi’s Unscientific and Unverified Clinic in Harwan Srinagar Sealed After Serious Allegations!

Qadir Reshi

In a decisive move to safeguard public health, authorities in Srinagar have sealed a clinic run by Ghulam Qadir Reshi, popularly known as Qadir Reshi or Hakeem, in Syedpora Bala, Harwan. The clinic, which had been operating for decades, came under scrutiny following allegations of unscientific medical practices leading to fatal outcomes.

The Sealing Operation

The sealing operation was carried out under the supervision of the Tehsildar Hazratbal, Naib Tehsildar Harwan, and the Block Medical Officer (BMO) Hazratbal. Medicines and other substances used at the clinic were seized, with samples collected for laboratory testing to determine their composition and compliance with medical standards.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Srinagar, Dr. Tahir Sajad, emphasized that patient safety is the top priority. “We are not against alternative or Ayurvedic treatments, but they must meet safety standards to ensure no harm to the public,” he said. He further added that the medicines seized from the clinic would be thoroughly investigated to assess their safety and authenticity.

Rising Concerns Over Unregulated Practices

The closure of Qadir Reshi’s clinic follows a series of concerns raised by medical professionals about unregulated practices in the area. Earlier, the Pediatrics Department of Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar issued a formal communiqué urging strong measures against quackery.

Dr. Sajad noted that over the past few years, there have been several cases of acute liver failure (ALF) linked to patients who sought treatment at the clinic after being discharged from GMC Srinagar. “These patients, in their pursuit of unproven cures, landed in intensive care units and, tragically, many lost their lives,” he said.

The Head of the Pediatrics Department at GMC Srinagar also highlighted the urgent need for regulatory action. In an official letter to the Principal of GMC Srinagar, they stated, “We must take firm steps to eliminate the practice of quackery to protect public health and future generations.”

Decades of Unverified Practices

Qadir Reshi’s clinic operated under the guise of traditional healing, with Reshi claiming that his family had been practicing spiritual and alternative medicine for generations. In an interview with a local news outlet, Reshi defended his work, stating, “Before me, my grandfather and father were in the same business, and I have been in this field for over 45 years.”

He further claimed that his clinic focused on offering prayers and spiritual healing rather than prescribing medications to children. However, these assertions did little to alleviate public concern, especially after reports of severe medical complications emerged.

The Role of ISM Department

Senior officials criticized the Indian Systems of Medicine (ISM) Department for failing to monitor and regulate such practices. “It is their responsibility to ensure that standards and guidelines are followed, especially since Ayurvedic medicines often contain heavy metals. The lack of oversight has allowed such unscientific practices to persist,” an official said.

A Step Toward Accountability

The sealing of Qadir Reshi’s clinic is seen as a significant step toward curbing unscientific medical practices in the region. Authorities are continuing their investigations, with laboratory results expected to shed more light on the nature of the medicines and treatments provided at the clinic.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of unverified medical practices and the importance of stringent regulations to ensure public safety. As the investigation unfolds, the spotlight remains on both the clinic and the regulatory bodies responsible for maintaining medical standards in the region.

Officials said that one-way trial run of the Vande Bharat Express train was completed today. “The train arrived in the Jammu Division on Friday and reached Srinagar today.”

Vande Bharat Express ICF rakes 49 and 80 have been nominated for commercial operation in the USBRL section. “These Vande Bharat Express trains are uniquely designed for cold conditions during the winter season with feature advanced technologies to ensure comfort, safety, and reliability,” officials said.

The train also passed through the iconic Anji Khad Bridge, India’s first cable-stayed rail bridge, and the Chenab Bridge, which is the world’s highest railway bridge.

Specially designed to withstand the cold climate of the Kashmir Valley, this is the third Vande Bharat train introduced for Jammu & Kashmir, but the first to serve the Kashmir Valley. The Northern Railway zone will oversee its operations and maintenance.

The train includes advanced heating systems to prevent the freezing of water and bio-toilet tanks. It also features a unique air-brake system and warm air circulation to ensure smooth operation in sub-zero temperatures.

Additional modifications include embedded heating elements in the windshield to clear frost during harsh winters. Triple-layered windscreens with heating filaments provide clear visibility for the driver, even during snowfall. These enhancements make the train capable of operating efficiently in temperatures as low as -30°C.

The Railways has completed the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, spanning 272 kilometers—(KNO)

Authorities Cancel Leaves for Doctors and Medical Staff as Mysterious Illness Claims 17 Lives in Badhaal village Rajouri

Cancel Leaves

Authorities have canceled all leaves for doctors and paramedics in response to a medical emergency triggered by the deaths of 17 people from Badhaal village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district, who succumbed to a mysterious illness.

The number of individuals in quarantine has surged to 230 as a precautionary measure.

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh announced that preliminary tests by the toxicology lab in Lucknow have ruled out infections, viruses, or bacteria as causes, with the focus now on a potential toxin.

In a press conference on Friday, Dr. Amarjeet Singh Bhatia, Principal of Rajouri Government Medical College (GMC), stated that all medical staff leaves, including winter vacations, have been canceled to manage the crisis. The situation follows the deaths of 17 individuals from three families over the past six weeks, which has prompted significant medical intervention.

To bolster the response, the Jammu and Kashmir government has dispatched 10 additional medical students to GMC Rajouri to support the ongoing efforts. The condition of three patients receiving treatment at GMC Hospital in Jammu and PGI Chandigarh is being closely monitored, according to officials.

Four individuals, including three sisters, were transferred to hospitals, with three airlifted to a facility in Jammu on Wednesday. As a precaution, more relatives who had close contact with the affected families have been quarantined, bringing the total to 230 individuals in isolation.

The quarantine center at the Nursing College in Rajouri has been heavily secured and fenced to ensure containment, with strict security measures in place. Authorities have identified numerous people who had direct contact with the affected families, ranging from those who took children to the hospital to those involved in the burials.

Dr. Singh emphasized that a comprehensive investigation is underway. The initial findings from the toxicology lab suggest the illness is linked to a toxin rather than an infectious agent. Investigations are ongoing to identify the exact nature of the toxin, with authorities testing a variety of possible substances. Dr. Singh also noted that authorities are looking into any potential foul play or malicious activity related to the incident.

Badhaal village was declared a containment zone on Wednesday, with authorities enforcing prohibitory orders on public and private gatherings to prevent further spread.

The 17 victims, including 13 children, all hailed from the families of Mohammad Fazal, Mohammad Aslam, and Mohammad Rafiq. These deaths occurred over the last month and a half, sparking separate investigations by both the central team and local police.

A central team continued its inquiry on Friday, while the Special Investigation Team (SIT), formed after traces of neurotoxins were discovered in the deceased’s samples, is exploring the possibility of a criminal element. The SIT has already questioned over 50 individuals in connection with the case.

Dr. Bhatia confirmed that a common factor in all the deaths is neurological damage affecting the brain and nervous system.
