Ghulam Hassan Mir Calls for Transparent, Merit-Based Licence Renewal Process in Gulmarg Tourism Sector

Ghulam Hassan Mir

Terming the Tourism Department’s notice for renewal of licences of registered stakeholders in Gulmarg as a timely administrative step, Apni Party Senior Vice President Ghulam Hassan Mir on Saturday said that the process must remain transparent, structured and based only on merit.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
In a statement issued here, Mir said tourism activity in Gulmarg represents more than a seasonal occupation, describing it as a livelihood network supporting families across income levels.
He said that attempts to influence the licence renewal process through informal channels would disturb ground operations, create uncertainty among workers and weaken institutional credibility.
Raising concern over reports of lobbying and pressure tactics, Mir said that the licence renewal drive must not become a process where influence replaces eligibility, adding that governance loses legitimacy when opportunities shift from the deserving to the powerful.
He said that Apni Party would observe the process and expects the department to evaluate every applicant through documented procedure, not informal persuasion. “Licence renewal should take place without political interference. No decision must bend to power or influence,” he added.
“If merit is undermined, we will contest it on every forum,” he further said.
He also said that tourism is a stabilising economic force for youth, and that denial of genuine employment opportunities pushes young people into frustration.
He cautioned that if skilled and deserving youth are deprived of work, they risk losing hope, a condition that could make them vulnerable to exploitation by social evils, addiction, crime, or other anti-social influences.
Mir said that youth without work often become disillusioned, and that hopelessness can push them toward wrong paths, where they may turn into tools for social ills that damage society from within.
Mir said that tourism in Gulmarg has become a major employment source for youth, especially for those who invested in their skills and work in the sector for years.
He said that many young workers in tourism are already facing economic strain, and that licence decisions directly shape their ability to earn.
He also said that the Tourism Department must guarantee equal access to documentation, clear timelines, grievance redressal, and transparent verification standards for all applicants.
Mir said that interference of any form, political, bureaucratic or external would not only harm individuals but also weaken collective trust in the administrative autonomy of the Tourism Department.
He said that the licence renewal process must set a precedent for procedural fairness in Jammu and Kashmir’s tourism governance.
He also said that the sector carries social weight, public visibility, and livelihood dependence, making its administration sensitive and consequential.
Mir said that the department must prioritise employment access for skilled youth, warning that tourism governance cannot afford to let economic despair fill the vacuum of opportunity.
Mir further said that while the party supports the renewal notice, it also demands institutional safeguards to ensure the exercise benefits rightful stakeholders, not pressure-driven outcomes.
He said that if the process fails to remain transparent and merit-led, the party will take a strong stand. “If the process is influenced or the deserving are sidelined, Apni Party will protest and contest it on every appropriate forum to ensure that no deserving individual is left behind.
He added that the party’s position is to defend fairness and equal opportunity for all tourism stakeholders.(KNS)

Tanvir Sadiq Blames PDP for Aligning with BJP, Says Alliance Caused Irreparable Damage to Jammu and Kashmir

Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq

Tanvir Sadiq, MLA Zadibal and Chief Spokesperson of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, on Thursday strongly criticised the Peoples Democratic Party for what he described as long-lasting damage to Jammu and Kashmir by aligning with the Bharatiya Janata Party after the 2014 elections.

In a statement, Tanvir Sadiq said the PDP can never escape responsibility for supporting policies that, according to him, stripped Jammu and Kashmir of its political, economic and constitutional rights.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Speaking at a public gathering after laying the foundation stone of a Community Hall at Jogilanker in Rainawari, Tanvir said the people of Jammu and Kashmir would never forget what he called the PDP’s “political betrayal”. He said the party had campaigned against the BJP, warned people about its agenda, and then later joined hands with the same party.

Tanvir said the PDP-BJP alliance caused deep political damage and pushed the region into economic hardship. He said that by bringing the BJP into power, the PDP opened the door to a series of problems whose effects are still being felt today.

Referring to the major political changes of 2019, Tanvir said the loss of special status and statehood would not have happened if the PDP had not legitimised the BJP’s role in Jammu and Kashmir. He added that the foundation for those events was laid much earlier when the PDP chose power over principles.

Recalling the 2014 elections, Tanvir said both the National Conference and the PDP had promised voters that they would keep the BJP out of power. He said late Mufti Muhammad Sayeed and Mehbooba Mufti had assured people that voting for the PDP was the only way to stop the BJP. However, he said those promises were broken immediately after the elections.

Quoting a proverb, Tanvir said, “Lamhon ne khata ki thi, sadiyon ne saza payi,” meaning a mistake made in moments led to punishment lasting generations.

He further accused the PDP-BJP government of weakening Jammu and Kashmir even before 2019 by imposing policies such as GST and SARFAESI. He said these decisions hollowed the region from within and added that the PDP has never apologised for its actions.

Reaffirming his party’s stand, Tanvir said the National Conference always chose principles over power. He said the party refused to compromise its values and would never trade the dignity of the people for political benefit.

Tanvir also accused the PDP, Apni Party, Peoples Conference, and some independent candidates of indirectly helping the BJP by targeting only the National Conference. He said none of them had the courage to directly challenge the BJP.

Earlier, Tanvir laid the foundation stone of the long-pending Community Hall at Jogilanker, Rainawari. He said the project would provide much-needed space for social, cultural and community activities in an area facing a shortage of public facilities.

AIP Demands Time-Bound Policy for Regularisation of Temporary Workers in J&K

er rashid

The Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) on Wednesday urged the Jammu and Kashmir government to announce a clear and time-bound policy for the regularisation of daily wagers, DRWs, SPOs, ad-hoc appointees, contractual staff and consolidated employees.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

AIP Chief Spokesperson Inam Un Nabi said that long delays and uncertainty have pushed thousands of families into serious distress. He said that while the government has spoken about forming committees and creating a mechanism, workers on the ground still see no real outcome.

“A committee does not feed a family. These are not just files, they are families. They are not temporary in their work, only in how they are recognised. Promises and committees cannot replace dignity and job security,” he said.

Inam Un Nabi stressed that the issue is not only administrative but also humanitarian. He demanded immediate clearance of pending dues, protection of minimum wages, and access to basic service benefits along with regularisation.

He said the Awami Itihaad Party will continue to raise the issue until a fair, transparent and enforceable policy is announced. Such a policy, he added, is long overdue for workers who have already spent the best years of their lives serving the public.

J&K Anti-Corruption Bureau Steps Up Fight Against Corruption in 2025

Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB)

The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) continued its strong drive against corruption in 2025, focusing on transparency, accountability and clean governance.

According to an official statement, the ACB registered and investigated 78 corruption-related cases during the year. These included 36 trap cases against public servants caught demanding or accepting bribes, 18 cases of disproportionate assets, 15 cases of misuse of official position, eight cases linked to a major land scam involving illegal transfer of custodian land, and one case related to illegal appointments.

The Bureau filed charge-sheets in 43 cases before competent courts, showing its commitment to timely and professional investigations. During 2025, courts decided several cases, resulting in seven convictions and punishment of 13 accused persons.

Along with investigations, the ACB focused strongly on preventive vigilance and system सुधार. It verified complaints, checked suspicious transactions, and issued advisories to close loopholes that allow corruption. During the year, 703 verifications were carried out, and 764 matters were disposed of, including cases pending from the previous year.

In 2025, the ACB issued 41 alert notes and 91 advisories to the government. These highlighted serious procedural gaps and corruption-prone areas found during verifications, surprise checks and complaint reviews. The aim was to improve internal controls, transparency and accountability.

District Vigilance Officers (DVOs) played an important role at the departmental level. Over the last five years, they referred 15,197 matters to the ACB, out of which 12,406 were disposed of, showing a disposal rate of around 90 percent. In 2025 alone, 3,960 matters were disposed of.

The Bureau also carried out 18 new Joint Surprise Checks during the year and completed 19 checks, including pending ones. It registered 25 Preliminary Enquiries, of which 20 were finalised within the same year.

Public awareness remained a key focus. The ACB organised Vigilance Awareness Programmes twice in 2025, including workshops and interactive sessions with citizens, students and government employees. These programmes explained the harmful effects of corruption and encouraged people to report corruption through safe and confidential channels.

Training and capacity building of staff was another priority. Regular training programmes were held for investigating officers, with expert sessions from universities, banks and specialised institutions. The Bureau has also planned future training, including specialised courses for new officers in coordination with the CBI and other agencies.

The J&K Anti-Corruption Bureau reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy towards corruption and assured the public that all complaints are handled fairly, confidentially and professionally. The Bureau called for continued public cooperation to build a corruption-free and transparent Jammu and Kashmir.

EOW Kashmir Files Chargesheet in Fake Government Job Scam Case Before Budgam Court

EOW Kashmir

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch Kashmir has filed a chargesheet before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, Budgam in connection with a fake government job scam.

The chargesheet relates to FIR No. 13/2023 registered under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The accused has been identified as Ghulam Nabi Hudda, son of Mohammad Hudda, originally from Satakchay, Kargil, and presently residing at Gasiyar Hawal, Zadibal, Srinagar.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

According to officials, the case began after a written complaint was received by the Crime Branch. The complainant alleged that in 2021 he came into contact with the accused, who falsely claimed to be a senior government officer.

The accused allegedly promised the complainant and several others that he could arrange government jobs in return for money. Trusting these assurances, the complainant deposited several lakhs of rupees into the accused’s bank account through nine separate transactions.

However, despite repeated promises, the accused neither arranged any government employment nor returned the money. The complainant later realised that he had been cheated.

Following the complaint, Economic Offences Wing Kashmir (earlier known as Crime Branch Kashmir) conducted a detailed investigation into the matter. During the probe, the allegations made by the complainant were found to be prima facie true.

Investigators concluded that the accused had deliberately deceived the complainant with dishonest intentions, causing him serious financial loss. The actions of the accused were found to clearly amount to the offence of cheating under Section 420 IPC.

After completing the investigation, EOW Kashmir submitted the chargesheet before the court for judicial consideration. Further legal proceedings in the case will now be decided by the court.
