A Power Development Department (PDD) worker was injured on Sunday after receiving an electric shock in Nowshera area of Srinagar, officials said.
An official said that a PDD worker was injured after he received an electric shock at Nowshera, Srinagar.He said the worker was critically injured and was taken to hospital for treatment.He was identified as Bashir Ahmad Sofi (38), a resident of Ganderbal.Meanwhile, the investigations have been taken up—(KNO)

He expressed his concern, stating, “I strongly believe that no one should lose their life or get injured while performing their duties. These incidents are completely avoidable.”
Shah emphasized the importance of adhering to safety protocols from day one and highlighted the corporation’s efforts to ensure the well-being of its employees. “We have a training module in place, which every employee is required to undergo.This module includes detailed guidelines on safety protocols, proper usage of safety gear, and creating a safe working environment,” he stated.
Elaborating on the new safety measures, Shah said capacity-building program has been designed for KPDCL’s ground staff. “The program includes practical demonstrations on how to avoid electric shocks, how to use protective gear effectively, and how to install equipment safely. The goal is to eliminate injuries and prevent avoidable accidents,” he said.
Shah also reiterated the importance of providing safety gear to the employees and ensuring its proper utilization. “It is our responsibility to equip our staff with the necessary tools and knowledge to work safely. This training and gear empowers them to carry out their duties without risking their lives,” he remarked.

Managing Director (MD) Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL), Mahmood Ahmad Shah, today kick-started a series of Trainings on Safety related to Electricity Construction, Operation and Maintenance.
In the first instance, the two-day Electrical Safety Workshop was organised at the KPDCL Data Centre, Bemina. The workshop was aimed at enhancing the safety knowledge of field staff and linemen working within the jurisdiction of O&M Circles Ist and IInd, Srinagar.
The opening session was held in the presence of Chief Engineer (Distribution), Superintending Engineers from Circle Ist & IInd, and CEO of IT&C KPDCL. The audio visual sessions were held through specifically designed modules aimed to promote workplace safety and best practices among KPDCL field employees. A batch of 60 field officials attended the program. During the opening session, MD KPDCL underscored the critical importance of adhering to safety protocols on work sites, urging the field staff to prioritize safety above all else.
The trainers provided valuable insights into the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to be followed during construction works, routine maintenance works, breakdown maintenance and rectification of faults emphasizing the need and role of field staff in ensuring safe operations. Live demonstration regarding the use of safety gear was also held.
The trainers were drawn from various wings of JKPDD and Electrical Inspectorate.
A guest lecture was delivered by Er. Bashir Ahmed Dar, former Secretary Technical JKPDD and MD of KPTCL, who shared his experience and expertise on precautionary measures during construction works and the critical role of SOPs in safeguarding both personnel and public safety.
The workshop reflects KPDCL’s unwavering commitment to ensure the safety and well-being of its field staff, fostering a culture of safety excellence within the organization. A series of safety programs is scheduled to be held at Circle level across all electrical districts of KPDCL.
In order to have firsthand review of electrical infrastructure in Bandipora District, Managing Director (MD), Kashmir Power Development Corporation Limited (KPDCL), Mehmood Ahmad Shah Sunday undertook an extensive tour of Bandipora District.
During the visit, the MD inspected Grid station Putshahi Bandipora and reviewed the grid level power availability in the district. He also carried out inspection of the Workshops and Stores of the Electric Division (ED) Bandipora and Sumbal to assess the availability of critical equipment and spare parts, alongside maintenance protocols.
He emphasised for speedy repairs of transformers that get damaged due to excessive load.
The MD also took stock of the existing power infrastructure, assessed the ongoing projects that are being carried out in the district under the centrally sponsored scheme RDSS and reviewed the overall functioning of the power distribution system in the district.
Emphasizing the corporation’s commitment to providing reliable and efficient power supply, the MD directed the officials to expedite the completion of ongoing projects, ensure timely maintenance of electrical infrastructure and enhance customer satisfaction.
Later, the MD interacted with the field staff and Engineers to understand the ground-level challenges and receive feedback on the corporation’s services.

The traffic enforcement authorities in Kashmir executed 8,25,304 challans from January to November 2024, generating a revenue of ₹28,36,03,261. Officials have also seized 12,612 vehicles across the region to improve road discipline. According to officials, Traffic City Srinagar recorded 4,13,150 challans, leading to a revenue collection of ₹16,56,97,211. The highest number of challans in the city was issued in December with 43,947, followed by July with 41,225 and August with 37,506. The highest revenue was collected in August, amounting to ₹1,61,85,600, while February saw a collection of ₹1,52,42,000. A total of 9,118 vehicles were seized in Traffic City Srinagar, including 2,244 two-wheelers, 2,688 three-wheelers, and 4,186 four-wheelers. July recorded the highest number of vehicle seizures, at 1,063, while April had the lowest, with 528 impounded vehicles. In Traffic Rural Kashmir, 4,12,154 challans were executed, generating ₹11,79,06,050 in revenue. The highest number of challans in rural areas was recorded in March at 40,410, followed by October with 39,583 and January with 37,883. The highest revenue collection was in October at ₹1,26,35,630, followed by July with ₹1,08,10,850. A total of 3,497 vehicles were seized in rural areas, including 1,504 two-wheelers, 112 three-wheelers, and 1,861 four-wheelers. The highest number of vehicle seizures was recorded in April, with 386 vehicles, followed by March, with 265. Officials stated that the enforcement drive aims to improve road safety and ensure adherence to traffic regulations. They stated that with modern technology, fines can now be issued online, and vehicles can be seized in case of violations. A senior traffic official highlighted that while enforcement has helped regulate traffic, it is not the sole solution to reducing accidents. “We can fine and seize vehicles, but road safety is everyone’s responsibility. People must follow traffic rules, wear helmets, and avoid reckless driving,” he said.
The authorities have also conducted awareness campaigns to educate people about road safety and the consequences of violations. Officials urged commuters to cooperate and adhere to traffic laws to make the roads safer for everyone.

According to the Chief Engineer, Distribution, KPDCL, in order to carry out Augmentation of conductor from 0.1 ACSR to 0.2 ACSR, the shutdown of 33KV Nehalpora (Pattan)-Markundal line shall be observed due to which Receiving Stations at Markundal, Naidkhai, Shahgund and Aglar shall remain off while power supply to the Naidkhai, Markundal, Sumbal Ankhul, Gundboon areas will be affected from 10:00 AM to 03:00 PM on 16 & 18 January, 2025.
Also, to facilitate dismantling of HT Poles coming on road side of Grid Station Rawalpora, the shutdown of 33KV Rawalpora-Chanapora Bone & Joint line shall be observed due to which 33/11KV Receiving Stations at Chanapora and Bone & Joint shall remain off while the power supply to the Chanapora, Natipora, B&J Baghat will be affected from 11:00 AM to 02:00 PM on 15 January, 2025.
The shutdown of 33KV Rawalpora Bagh i Mehtab line shall be observed due to which 33/11KV Receiving Station at Bagh i Mehtab shall remain off while the power supply to the Bagh i Mehtab, Kralpora, Gopalpora areas will be affected from 11:00 AM to 02:00 PM on 15 January, 2025.
Further, in order to carry out Testing of 11 KV VCB Panel and 33 KV C&R Panel, Power Transformer and allied equipments in connection with augmentation of Rec., Station, the shutdown of 33KV Budgam SIDCO line shall be observed due to which 33/11KV Receiving Stations at Budgam and SIDCO shall remain off while the power supply to the Budgam, Ompora Housing Colony, Sebdan, Jawalapora, Budgam Town and JNV areas will be affected from 10:00 AM to 05:00 PM on 18 January, 2025.
Moreover, to carry out Stringing of Dog ACSR conductor and pole erection, the shutdown of 33KV Amargarh SIDCO Line shall be observed due to which 33/11KV Receiving Stations at Seer, Rohama and Chakloo shall remain off while the power supply to the Seer, Gur Seer, Peth Seer, Manz Seer, Rohama, Chakloo and adjoining areas will be affected from 10:30 AM to 04:00 PM on 18 & 20 January, 2025.
In order to carry out Stabilization/ improvement of 33 KV line, the shutdown of 33KV Nadihal Tap Line shall be observed due to which 33/11KV Receiving Station at Ajas shall remain off while the power supply to the Ajas, Bazipora, SK Bala and Saudnara areas will be affected from 10:00 AM to 03:00 PM on 18 & 22 January, 2025.
Also in this connection, the shutdown of 33KV Alusteng Line shall be observed due to which 33/11KV Receiving Stations at Alasteng, Nagbal, Gadoora and Tulbagh shall remain off while the power supply to the Shuhama, Bakura, Darend, Nagbal, Fatehpora, Check Gadoora, Tulbagh and Chunduna areas will be affected from 10:00 AM to 03:00 PM on 18 & 21 January, 2025.

The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Budgam, Akshay Labroo, conducted an extensive visit to inspect the status of BSNL 4G towers installed at Kanidajan, Nagbal, and Yousmarg areas under the 4G saturation project. During the visit, the DC directed BSNL and line departments to coordinate closely and resolve all issues holding back the final operationalization of the towers.
The DC emphasized the importance of ensuring uninterrupted connectivity for the local population and tourists. The successful telecom connectivity test at the Yousmarg BSNL tower site marked a significant step towards achieving this goal. The installation of these towers will facilitate online educational classes and digital transactions, benefiting both residents and visitors.
The DC was accompanied by CEO Yousmarg Development Authority, Bilal Khursheed, SDM Chadoora, Chief Planning Officer Budgam, Tehsildar Chrarsharief, SDO BSNL, engineers from KPDCL, and other concerned officers.
