The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) is set to announce the results for the bi-annual 2024 examinations for the 11th grade today.
An official from JKBOSE has confirmed to Rising Kashmir that the results will be made public today.
“Students will be able to check their results on the official JKBOSE website as well as in the gazettes published by JKBOSE,” official said.

A wave of concerns has emerged in Jammu and Kashmir regarding the age relaxation policy for various government job aspirants, particularly in light of recent job advertisements by the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) and the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB). Applicants from different categories, including general category candidates, are calling for immediate age relaxation, especially since many key government positions have not been advertised in years.
The demand for age relaxation has become increasingly urgent, as job posts for positions like Assistant Professors and Lecturers have been scarce for nearly seven years. As a result, many young aspirants who were once eligible for these positions have now crossed the upper age limit. Both government officials and leaders from political parties, including the National Conference (NC), have been urged to take immediate action to address this issue.
A senior government official, spoke on the matter, saying, “We are aware of the difficulties many applicants face due to the lack of job advertisements over the past few years. We are actively considering measures to address age relaxation concerns.”
On the other hand, NC officials have also joined the conversation, emphasizing the need for an equitable solution. “A fair policy that balances the interests of all groups is essential. Age relaxation is not just about fairness—it is a matter of giving everyone an equal opportunity to serve the state,” said a spokesperson from the National Conference.
The issue of reservation, particularly for the unreserved (OM) category, has also sparked significant debate. Despite the fact that the unreserved population in Jammu and Kashmir stands at a substantial 69%, recent figures show that they are getting only 41% of available opportunities. This has raised questions about the distribution of seats in both educational institutions and government jobs.
In the 2024 NEET exam, out of 1,007 medical seats in Jammu and Kashmir, only 124 were allotted to OM students, making up just about 12% of the total seats. Worse, some government medical colleges (GMCs) reported almost no OM students being admitted. For example, GMC Udhampur reported zero admissions for OM students, GMC Doda admitted only two, and GMC Handwara just three.The cut-off marks for OM students in some GMCs have also been significantly high—681 for GMC Srinagar, 649 for Handwara, and 648 for Rajouri—raising concerns about access to education for non-reserved category students.
The situation is similarly problematic in the recent JK Police recruitment drive, which offered 4,002 posts but only allocated around 1,700 positions to OM candidates. Many believe this pattern reflects systemic inequalities that need to be addressed to ensure fair opportunities for all.
The issue of reservation in public employment is governed by various provisions in the Indian Constitution, including:
Article 16(4): Provides for reservation in public employment for backward classes. Article 16(4A). Introduced in 1995, it allows for reservation in promotions for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
Article 15(4) Added in 1951, it allows for special provisions for the advancement of backward classes. Article 15(5)**: Enacted in 2006, it allows reservation in private educational institutions for backward, SC, and ST classes.
However, critics argue that the implementation of these provisions should ensure that no group—whether reserved or unreserved—faces unfair disadvantages.
Experts agree that while reservation is necessary for the upliftment of backward classes, it should not come at the expense of fairness for non-reserved categories. With mounting concerns from both job seekers and educational aspirants, the call for a balanced approach has never been more urgent. Political leaders, including Agya Sab and members of the National Conference, have emphasized the importance of reviewing and revising the reservation policies to ensure that they are both inclusive and fair.
As Jammu and Kashmir navigates these complex issues, it remains to be seen how the government will address the concerns raised by various groups, especially in terms of age relaxation and equitable distribution of opportunities in education and employment. (KNS)

The University of Kashmir is set to conduct interviews for assistant professor positions on November 20, 2024, at the Vice-Chancellor’s Secretariat. This announcement comes from the Deputy Registrar (Recruitment), who has confirmed that shortlisted candidates have been notified via email.
The official notice states, “We would like to inform concerned candidates that interviews for the following subjects—Geography and Commerce—are scheduled for November 20, 2024, at the Vice-Chancellor’s Secretariat, University of Kashmir, Hazratbal, Srinagar.” Call letters have been sent to candidates at the email addresses they provided in their applications.
However, this short notice has raised significant concerns among candidates, who describe the situation as indicative of a “total malfunctioning” within the University. With just 48 hours’ notice, many candidates find this timeline not only questionable but potentially unconstitutional. Traditionally, candidates are given at least a week’s notice to prepare, making this abrupt announcement troubling for many.
Several candidates, particularly those currently employed, have expressed frustration over the lack of adequate time to arrange for leave and travel. Given the high costs associated with travel in the Srinagar sector, this has only added to their concerns about the University’s management.
This announcement follows a recent pattern of postponed interview sessions due to “administrative issues,” which has further fueled skepticism regarding the transparency of the recruitment process. Just last week, the University postponed interviews for various assistant professor positions at the last minute, citing similar administrative challenges. The issuance of this latest notice—just two days prior to the interviews—has only deepened doubts about the fairness and integrity of the selection process among candidates.

The Directorate of School Education Kashmir on Tuesday banned driving of vehicles by minor students and asked the institutions to not allow them enter premises’ while driving any motor vehicle, including two-wheelers or four-wheelers
The directorate, in a circular reads that the parents of those students should be informed accordingly.
“This a matter of grave concern that incidents of underage driving among students are on the rise, resulting in tragic road accidents and endangering public safety.”
It asked all schools including private and government schools and coaching centres to keep a close vigil and ensure that no student (minor) is allowed to attend the institution while driving any motor vehicle, including two-wheelers or four-wheelers.
“Students arriving at schools or coaching centres using motor vehicles of any type must not be permitted entry under any circumstances and their parents be informed accordingly. Parents and guardians must be informed about this directive and their responsibility to ensure compliance,” it said—(KNO)

The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) on Saturday expressed its strong concern over the premature examination schedule for the BA.LL.B 10th and LL.B 6th semester students of Kashmir University.
In a statement, the National General Secretary of the Association, Aadil Bhat, said that exams have been scheduled for early December, despite the semester, which typically lasts for six months, having begun only in September.
This condensed timeline leaves students with just three months to complete an extensive syllabus, which is far from sufficient, especially considering that mandatory court internships remain pending.
Bhat emphasized that the rushed schedule is deeply troubling, as it undermines both the academic integrity of the program and the well-being of the students.
Legal education combines theoretical knowledge and practical exposure, and the current examination timeline denies students the opportunity to properly prepare for exams while also completing their internships, which are vital for their professional development.
He asserted that dozens of students have approached the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association, expressing their distress over this issue and requesting intervention. The current timeline is placing immense pressure on students, affecting not only their academic performance but also their mental and emotional health.
Students should not have to choose between completing their syllabus and gaining valuable practical experience. Both elements are integral to their education.
Bhat further added that various students, including those from law colleges such as Kashmir Law College, Vitasta Law College, and Sopore Law College, have reached out to the association. They voiced concerns about insufficient class time and incomplete syllabus coverage, stating that the early scheduling of exams has caused them immense stress.
The Association urged the Vice Chancellor of Kashmir University, Prof. Nilofar Khan, and Registrar Prof. Naseer Iqbal to reschedule the exams to January or February, providing students with adequate time to complete their syllabus and undertake their internships. This would allow students to approach their exams in a more prepared and balanced manner, without compromising their professional training.
The Association urged the authorities to take a realistic view of the challenges faced by students and recognize the adverse impact this accelerated schedule is having on their academic success and future careers. It is critical that the authorities make adjustments to ensure fairness, equality, and the overall well-being of the students. The Association hopes that the university will take immediate and favourable action on this matter.
Bhat requested the Vice Chancellor and Registrar to look into the matter and reschedule the exams according to the normal academic calendar (January-February). It urged them to address this “genuine” issue, allowing students a much-needed sigh of relief.

Students at Muslim Public High School in Kursoo Rajbagh area of Srinagar, which caught fire on Thursday, appreciated a nearby battalion reserve police force.
A class 10th student, Musadiq ,told Rising Kashmir that the fire erupted in boys building of Muslim Public High School.He said that they were in the school ground preparing for children’s day celebrations.He said that they saw plumes of smoke arising from the building.
“ Soon many personnel of CRPF rushed in and helped in evacuating students,” he said, adding that they also called fire and emergency department personnel for dousing the flames.
A parent informed that all the students have been safely evacuated.Till last reports efforts were on to douse the fire.Officials were ascertaining the cause of fire.
The fire has caused significant damage to the attic and the 3rd floor, students said, adding that the attic was turned into an auditorium.
