Police Arrests 8 Drug Peddlers in Srinagar, Baramulla and Anantnag Districts

Police arrested 8 drug peddlers with contraband substances & cash in Srinagar, Baramulla and Anantnag districts.

A Police party at a checkpoint established by Soura Police on 90 Feet Road near Treats, intercepted a vehicle (TATA NITER) bearing registration number PB53AM-7939 driven by Surinder Pal Saini son of Joginder Pal Saini resident of Chele Chak, District Gurdaspur, Tehsil Pathankot, Punjab. During search, 4.92 grams of Heroin and cash amount of ₹ 6,930 (believed to be proceeds of narcotics) were recovered from his possession. Preliminary investigation reveals that the accused is a chronic drug peddler who has been actively involved in selling drugs among the youth of district Srinagar.

In another incident, a Police party of PS Rajbagh during patrolling, intercepted a vehicle (Scorpio) bearing registration number JK01AV-8300 with two persons on board. They have been identified as Riyaz Ahmad Chana son of Late Ab Aziz resident of Haba Kadal and Hamza Khan son of Asif Akhan resident of Rawalpora. During search, 4 grams of Brown Sugar and a digital weighing machine was recovered from their possession. They have been arrested and the vehicles used in the commission of crime have also been seized.

Meanwhile in Baramulla, a Police party of PS Uri at a checkpoint established at Gingal Bridge, intercepted a person identified as Syed Hassan Shah son of Syed Mehboob resident of Gingal. During search, 6.5 Kgs of Cannabis Powder was recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and has been shifted to Police Station. Similarly, a Police party of PS Baramulla at a checkpoint established at Janbazpora Baramulla, arrested a drug peddler identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Ganie son of Abdul Majid resident of Binner.

During search, 100 grams of charas was recovered from his possession. In another action, a Police party of PS Sheeri at a checkpoint established at Forest Check Post Gantamulla Baramulla, arrested a drug peddler identified as Mohd Amin Sheikh son of Gh Rasool resident of Kitchama. During search, 30 grams of charas was recovered from his possession.

In South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, a Police team from PS Srigufwara arrested a drug peddler at a checkpoint established near the ATM Crossing in Sallar. He has been identified as Fareed Ahmad Shah son of Dilawar Shah resident of Sheikhpora, Sallar. During search, 3.2 Kgs of Cannabis Powder concealed in a nylon bag was recovered from his possession. Furthermore, a Police team from PS Ashmuqam at a checkpoint established at Peer Mohalla, Ashmuqam, arrested a drug peddler along with 5.7 Kgs of Cannabis Husk. He has been identified as Mehraj Din Sheikh son of Gh Rasool resident of Sheikh Mohalla, Ashmuqam.

Regarding these incidents, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigation has been initiated.

Continuing its war against drug dealings, Police have arrested 6 drug peddlers in Srinagar, Kulgam & Kupwara and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

A Spokesman said that a police party of Police Station Shaheed Gunj at a checkpoint established at Habakadal Chowk, intercepted a suspicious person. He has been identified as Sameer Majeed Khan son of Late Ab Majeed Khan resident of Dadi Kadal Tankipora Srinagar. During search, 15 grams of Heroin was recovered from his possession.

In a similar action, a police party of Police Station Chanapora at a checkpoint established at Doodh Ganga Bund Chanapora, arrested a drug peddler identified as Jan Manzoor Bhat son of Manzoor Ahmad Bhat resident of Azad Basti Natipora. During search, 5 grams of contraband brown sugar was recovered from his possession. In another action, during patrolling at Kursoo Aramwari Bund Road, a Police party of PS Rajbagh, apprehended a person identified as Mohsin Abass Lone son of Mohd Abass Lone resident of Wazir Bagh alongwith 8 grams of Brown Sugar.

In Kulgam, a police team of Police Station Qazigund, at a checkpoint established at Railway Bridge near Old BDO Office Qazigund arrested a drug peddler identified as Bashir Ahmad Malik son of Mohd Yousuf Malik resident of Chowgam. During search, officers were able to recover 4.6 Kgs of Grinded Cannabis and 45 grams of Charas were recovered from his possession.

Meanwhile, in Kupwara a police party from Police Station Trehgam at a checkpoint established near Nerampora Bridge noticed a suspicious vehicle attempting to flee from the spot. The alert police party intercepted the said vehicle (Swift Dzire) bearing registration number JK09B-3874 with two persons on board. They have been identified as Javid Ahmad Sheikh (driver) and Sajad Ahmad, both residents of Gulgam.

Upon search of the vehicle approximately 99 grams of a brown sugar-like substance was recovered. Preliminary investigation revealed that the apprehended individuals were actively engaged in the illegal sale of narcotics within the local area, specifically targeting the youth.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations. Investigation is underway and further arrests are anticipated as part of a broader effort to dismantle the narcotics network in the valley.

Continuing its drive against drug menace, police in Anantnag attached property of a drug peddler worth 1.5 Crore.

In a handout  the police said that in a significant step towards combating Drug abuse, Anantnag Police have attached properties worth ₹1.5 crore under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act as part of their ongoing campaign against drug peddlers.

In a major action, Police Station Mattan attached a single-story residential house valued at ₹80 lakh, belonging to Afroz Ahmad Bhat , son of Gh Hassan, of Azam Khan Mohalla, Khreibal. Bhat, a habitual offender, has been involved in multiple NDPS cases for his role in the illegal narcotics trade.

Similarly, Police Station Srigufwara attached three commercial shops valued at ₹70 lakh, owned by Peer Asif Ahmad Shah and Peer Towseef Ahmad Shah , sons of Abdul Rashid Shah, residents of K Kalan, Srigufwara. Both brothers are under investigation for their involvement in several NDPS cases.

These actions highlight Anantnag Police’s unwavering commitment to eradicating the drug menace and dismantling the networks that perpetuate addiction. The use of provisions under the NDPS Act to seize properties linked to criminal activities serves as a strong deterrent to those engaged in the illegal drug trade.

A Police spokesperson said that a police party of Police Station Baramulla headed by SHO PS Baramulla & DO Old Town Baramulla at a checkpoint established at Old Town, intercepted two persons. During search, 380 Tablets of Alprazolam 0.5 mg psychotropic substances was recovered from their possession. They were later identified as Shahid Bilal Shah son of Bilal Ahmad resident of Janbazpora & Suhail Ahmad Bhat son of Mushtaq Ahmad resident of Ladoora Rafiabad. They have been arrested.

Accordingly, case under relevant sections of law have been registered at Police Station Baramulla and investigations have been initiated.

In a decisive step against narcotics trafficking, Anantnag Police have attached the property of a known drug trafficker, Mohammad Ashraf Dar, under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Mohammad Ashraf Dar, son of Jalal-Ud-Din and resident of Tulkhan Bijbehara, has a history of offenses under the NDPS Act, with several cases involving the trafficking of substances like Codeine Phosphate, Charas, and Spasmo Proxyvan Plus. His most recent offense was on April 4, 2021, when a major drug haul was seized, including 70 bottles of Codeine Phosphate, 34.7 kg of Charas powder, and 4,320 capsules of Spasmo Proxyvan Plus.

Further investigations revealed that his two sons, Inayat Ah Dar and Sahil Ah Dar, were also arrested in 2024 on drug-related charges. Inayat Ah Dar was arrested in Case FIR No. 13/2024, with 9 bottles of Codeine Phosphate, and Sahil Ah Dar was apprehended in Case FIR No.36/2024, with 12 bottles of the same substance.

Despite Mohammad Ashraf Dar’s stated income from agriculture, an investigation revealed that his three-storey residence in Tulkhan, valued at around 1.2 crores, was acquired through proceeds from his illicit drug activities. Consequently, Anantnag Police, via Police Station Bijbehara, enforced Section 68(1) of the NDPS Act to attach the property, preventing its sale or alteration.

This action demonstrates Anantnag Police’s strong commitment to dismantling the financial base of the drug trade and serves as a clear warning that illicit gains from narcotics trafficking will not be permitted. Anantnag Police remain dedicated to eliminating the narcotics network through continuous and strategic measures.(KNS).

Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police have arrested 03 drug peddlers in Baramulla & Kulgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

A Spokesman said that police party of Police Station Baramulla headed by SHO Police Station Baramulla at a checkpoint established at Eco Park Baramulla, intercepted a person identified as Roshan Ahmad Awan son of Mohd Ahmad Awan resident of Paranpeelan Uri. During search, 65 grams of contraband charas like substance was recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station Baramulla where he remains in custody. In Kulgam, a police party headed by SHO Police Station Qaimoh at a checkpoint established at Khudwani Byepass (NHW-44) intercepted 02 suspicious persons. They have been identified as Mohd Imran Bhat son of Tariq Ahmad Bhat and Mohd Nawaz Lohar son of Ghulam Nabi Lohar, both residents of Mohar, Reasi. During search, officers were able to recover 30 grams of charas and 600 grams of grinded cannabis like contraband substances from their possession. Both the accused persons were arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.

In a significant action against illegal liquor trade, Police in Shopian have arrested a person and seized illicit liquor from his possession.

A Spokesman said, “Police party of PS Shopian, during a routine patrolling at Batapora Shopian, intercepted a suspicious person carrying a bag who tried to flee after noticing police party but was apprehended tactfully. He has been identified as Bhashkar Shagosh Chavhan son of Shagosh Chavhan resident of Ramaji Nagar Sonala Road Borgaon District Akola Maharashtra A/P Tenant at Batpora Chowk Shopian.”

“During search, 26 bottles of illicit liquor were found in the bag. He has been arrested and shifted to police station”, he said.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 152/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered at PS Shopian and investigation has been initiated.

During search, 100 grams of contraband Charas like substances was recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station Baramulla where he remains in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.

In a major operation against drug trafficking, Baramulla Police seized 2,695 grams of heroin worth 20 crores and arrested three key figures of a heroin smuggling ring.

A Police spokesperson said, “Acting on credible intelligence, a police team detained Nazim Din, son of Alim Din Tass, from Zamboor Pattan Uri, aged 28, during a surprise naka at NHW Khanpora on October 21, 2024. Upon search, officers found 519 grams of heroin concealed in a polythene bag under his armpit.”

“During initial questioning, Nazim disclosed his involvement in drug trafficking, allegedly under the influence of an unknown individual from Down Town Srinagar referred to as “Mir Sb.” According to his statement, he and his associate, Waqar Ahmad Khawaja, son of Abdul Rouf Khawaja from Tangdhar, Kupwara, aged 25, had received a consignment of heroin on October 17, 2024, from a woman near Noora Hospital in Srinagar. The duo used a Maruti Ertiga vehicle (JK09D-5822) owned by Waqar to transport the contraband from Srinagar to Handwara, distributing the drugs among local associates”, he said.

Following this lead, Baramulla Police, with the assistance of a magistrate, apprehended Waqar Ahmad near Handwara Bye-Pass crossing along with his vehicle and seized one more bag of heroin weighing 475 grams , from the car’s boot.

Further investigations led to the arrest of a third accomplice, Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, aged 50, from Marathgam, Handwara, on October 27, 2024. Upon his arrest, a search of his residence uncovered four additional packets of heroin, totaling 1,701 grams, concealed in his wardrobe.

Total Seizures

The cumulative seizure of contraband in this operation stands at 2,695 grams. Details of each recovery are as follows:

Nazim Din resident of Zamboor Pattan Uri, 519 grams, Waqar Ahmad Khawaja resident of Tangdhar, Kupwara, 475 grams & Manzoor Ahmad Bhat resident of Marathgam, Handwara, 1,701 grams.

The value of the seized drug is 20 crores in international markets.

The seized vehicle used in transporting the drugs has been confiscated, and all suspects are currently under police remand. Investigation is going on to identify other members of the trafficking network, including the Srinagar-based figure suspected of orchestrating local distribution.

Baramulla Police is committed to a zero-tolerance approach to drug-related offenses and call on citizens to report any suspicious activities to help in building a drug-free society.

Continuing its drive against the drug peddlers and its propagators, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday arrested three drug peddlers in Awantipora and recovered psychotropic substance from their possession.

A Spokesman said that Police party of Police Station Pampore headed by SHO PS Pampore under the supervision of SDPO Pampore during naka checking near EDI Pampore intercepted a vehicle (Eco Sports) bearing registration number HR26CK-0579 with three persons on board. During checking, 02 bottles of Codeine were recovered from their possession. They have been identified as Shabir Ahmad Shah son of Gh Rasool Shah resident of Tanchabagh Pampore, Imtiyaz Ahmad Sheikh son of Aziz Sheikh resident of Namblabal Pampore and Haris Younis son of Younis Saleem resident of Hawal. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR no. 128/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Pampore and further investigation has been initiated.
