Amarnath Yatra Resumes via Baltal Route, Suspended from Jammu Due to Rain

Amarnath Yatra

The Amarnath Yatra resumed from the Baltal axis in the Kashmir valley on Thursday but was suspended from Jammu due to inclement weather conditions.

No fresh batch of pilgrims was allowed to proceed from Jammu to the cave shrine in the South Kashmir Himalayas this morning, officials said.

In view of maintenance works on the Pahalgam axis of the Amarnath Yatra route following the rains, the yatra will continue only through the Baltal axis.

Torrential rains in Kashmir had rendered the roads unsafe, following which the pilgrimage was suspended on both the Baltal and Pahalgam routes on Wednesday.

“The yatra resumed this morning from the Baltal route,” an official said, adding, “In view of maintenance works required to be carried out on the Pahalgam axis of Amarnath Yatra route following the recent rains, the yatra shall continue only through Baltal axis.”

The official said that no convoy movement would be allowed towards the Baltal and Nunwan base camps from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu on Thursday.

Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Ramesh Kumar said that due to heavy rains in the yatra area, the movement of pilgrims from base camps in Kashmir has been affected.

“Therefore, it was decided that no convoy movement shall be allowed towards the base camps at Baltal and Nunwan from Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu on July 31,” he said.

The pilgrims are housed in the high-security Bhagwati Nagar base camp for their further journey to the twin base camps of Pahalgam and Baltal on Friday.

This is the second time the yatra has been suspended from Jammu. On July 17, the yatra was suspended due to heavy rains at the twin base camps in Kashmir.

Over 3.93 lakh pilgrims have paid obeisance at the ice lingam of Lord Shiva at the 3,880-metre high cave shrine since the 38-day pilgrimage commenced on July 3 from the Valley.

A total of 1,44,124 pilgrims have departed from the Jammu base camp for the Valley since July 2, when Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha flagged off the first batch.

Last year, over 5.10 lakh pilgrims paid obeisance at the cave shrine.

The pilgrimage is scheduled to end on August 9, coinciding with the Raksha Bandhan festival.–(PTI)

The annual Shri Amarnathji Yatra was suspended on Wednesday from both Pahalgam and Baltal base camps following heavy rainfall in the region.

Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, informed that the Yatra was not allowed to proceed from either the Baltal route or the Nunwan-Chandanwari track due to inclement weather and safety concerns.

So far, over 3.93 lakh pilgrims have performed darshan at the holy cave shrine since the commencement of the Yatra in June.(KNS).

Amarnath Yatra Resumes

After remaining suspended for a day due to inclement weather and slippery track conditions, the Amarnath Yatra resumed on Friday morning on both the Baltal and Pahalgam routes, officials told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO)

They said hundreds of pilgrims were allowed to proceed towards the holy cave shrine, nestled in Himalayas, for darshan.

Pertinently, no pilgrim was allowed to move from either of the twin base camps towards the cave shrine on Thursday as a precautionary measure.

“Continuous rainfall had triggered landslides and rendered the trekking paths unsafe, prompting authorities to temporarily halt the pilgrimage.
Restoration work was immediately undertaken to repair the affected stretches and ensure the safety of pilgrims,” an official said, adding that rescue teams and the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) worked tirelessly to make the tracks travel-worthy.

With improved weather conditions and clearance from the concerned agencies, the yatra resumed today from both the Nunwan (Pahalgam) and Baltal base camps this morning, the officials added.

According to official figures, over 2.56 lakh pilgrims have performed darshan of the naturally formed Ice Lingam at the holy cave shrine during the first 15 days of this year’s yatra.

SSP Ganderbal  Khalil Ahmad Poswal Refutes Death Rumours After Minor Landslide on Amarnath Yatra Route

Khalil Ahmad Poswal

Amid widespread speculation and circulating reports, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ganderbal, Khalil Ahmad Poswal, has dismissed claims of any pilgrim losing their life in the minor landslide that occurred at Rail Pathri along the Amarnath Yatra route.

“No pilgrim died due to the landslide,” SSP Poswal said. “The landslide at Rail Pathri was minor, but a video filmed from close range made it look more serious than it actually was.”

Following continuous rainfall over the past two days, the Amarnath Yatra was temporarily suspended from both Baltal and Pahalgam routes as a safety measure. The Border Roads Organization (BRO) swiftly deployed men and machinery to clear the route and restore movement for the yatris.

Clarifying confusion about a death reported earlier, SSP Poswal confirmed that a woman pilgrim did pass away, but her death was unrelated to the landslide.

“She was hit by a stone while on her way to the holy cave. It was an unfortunate and separate incident,” he said.(KNS)

Indian Army Rescues Over 3,500 Stranded Pilgrims Amid Landslide During Amarnath Yatra

Indian Army Rescues

Amidst continuing inclement weather in the higher reaches of Jammu & Kashmir, the Indian Army has once again displayed its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives of Amarnath Yatris.

On the evening of July 16, at approximately 7:15 PM, persistent rainfall triggered a landslide at Z Morh, between Rayalpathri and Brarimarg, resulting in the halting of Yatra movement and stranding a large number of pilgrims.

In immediate response, the Army detachment deployed at Brarimarg swung into action. Around 500 Yatris stranded in the area were accommodated in tents and provided with tea and drinking water.

Additionally, another 3,000 pilgrims found refuge in langars located between Brarimarg and Z Morh, which offered essential shelter and sustenance.
A particularly critical case involved a sick Yatri stranded between two landslide-prone zones at Rayalpathri. Indian Army Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) undertook a challenging manual stretcher evacuation under adverse weather conditions and safely transported the patient to Rayalpathri, from where an ambulance moved the individual for further medical care.

Camp Director at Brarimarg and the Company Commander of the Indian Army are present at the site and have assessed the situation as stable and under control. Efforts continue to ensure the safety and well-being of all Yatris in the area.

The weather at both Rayalpathri and Brarimarg is reported as lightly raining, and the Army remains on high alert to respond to any evolving situation.

These prompt actions are yet another testament to the Indian Army’s professionalism, dedication, and humanitarian commitment during Amarnath Yatra 2025, standing shoulder to shoulder with every pilgrim through every challenge. (ANI)
