BGSBU Rajouri Sends 40-Player Contingent to IIT Jammu’s Convoquer’26 Sports Fest

The Vice-Chancellor of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), Rajouri, Prof. Jawaid Iqbal, on Wednesday flagged off the university’s sports contingent for Convoquer’26, a sports festival being organised at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jammu from October 1 to 4, 2026. The BGSBU contingent includes 40 player entries representing the university in football, basketball, volleyball, athletics and weightlifting. The participating students come from different undergraduate, postgraduate and diploma programmes at the university.
Addressing the players before their departure, Prof. Jawaid Iqbal encouraged them to take part in the competition with discipline, confidence and a strong sporting spirit. He highlighted the importance of sports in the overall development of students and wished the contingent success at Convoquer’26.
BGSBU Registrar Ravi Kumar Sihag (IAS) also conveyed his best wishes to the participating students. He expressed hope that the players would represent the university with dedication, discipline and sportsmanship.
The Registrar also appreciated the university’s continued efforts to provide students with opportunities to participate in competitive sports and gain wider exposure.
The flag-off ceremony was attended by Rakesh Singh Sambyal, Incharge of the Directorate of Physical Education and Sports; Dr Pervez Alam, Chief Proctor; Dr Ram Singh, Head of the Department of Mathematics; and Dr Naseem Gul, President of the Football Club at BGSBU.
Participation in Convoquer’26 will give BGSBU students an opportunity to compete against participants from other institutions while gaining valuable experience in competitive sports.
The event is also expected to promote teamwork, leadership, discipline and sportsmanship among participating students. Interaction with students from other institutions will further provide opportunities for learning and cultural exchange.
The university extended its best wishes to all the participating players and officials and expressed hope that the BGSBU contingent would represent Rajouri with enthusiasm, confidence and a strong sporting spirit.
