IGP Kashmir emphasized to SSP Ganderbal and counterparts in CAPF and RR the imperative of rigorously assessing and bolstering existing strategies to counter potential terror threats. Further, IGP Kashmir issued directives for unbiased enforcement, advocating for decisive action against any law infringements and ensuring the readiness of law enforcement agencies to swiftly and effectively handle emergent situations.

In addition, a comprehensive discussion ensued regarding the impending Amarnath Ji Yatra-24, encompassing a meticulous security review of all transit points, base camps at Baltal and Domail, and related locations along the route.

Senior officers also scrutinized traffic management measures to facilitate the smooth movement of Yatra convoys, ensuring the availability of adequate parking facilities, and refining disaster management plans. National Conference Prepares to Field Local Leader for Baramulla Constituency in Lok Sabha Elections

The National Conference (NC) is gearing up to nominate a local leader from Kupwara district for the Baramulla constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, slated for April and May 2024.

According to sources familiar with the matter speaking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), the party is considering selecting one of two former local ministers to contest the Lok Sabha elections from the Baramulla constituency. However, a final decision is yet to be made and is expected in the coming days.

Addressing speculations, sources dismissed the notion that NC Vice-President Omar Abdullah would vie for the north Kashmir seat, suggesting instead that he is poised to run for the central Kashmir Lok Sabha seat.

“There has been extensive discussion on the issue, and party leaders have submitted a list of candidates to the high command for all three seats in the Kashmir valley,” the sources stated.

They emphasized the consensus among party workers in Kupwara district to field a local candidate, taking into consideration the dynamics of local political competition.

“Party VP Omar Abdullah is prepared to contest from central Kashmir, while former Ganderbal district minister Mian Altaf is slated to run for the south Kashmir seat,” they added.

Clarifying the situation regarding the north Kashmir seat, they indicated that either Chowdhary Mohammad Ramazan or Mir Saifullah would likely be the party’s candidate, with discussions ongoing and a decision expected soon.

The Baramulla seat, with 11.47 lakh voters, spans across 16 assembly segments in four districts: Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora, and Budgam.

The primary goal of this initiative was to educate current and former students of the Higher Secondary School about the entrepreneurial opportunities available in forestry and related fields.

Dr. Syed Naseem Geelani, the coordinator of the program, stressed the importance of such endeavors in preparing young individuals for the challenges they may face in the job market. Attendees were informed about various Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) programs and skill development opportunities, aimed at empowering unemployed youth. The discussion centered on forestry-based enterprises, including nursery technology, sustainable logging practices, eco-tourism, and wildlife conservation, highlighting potential avenues for sustainable livelihoods in rural communities. Additionally, the exploration of opportunities in medicinal and aromatic plants offered promising prospects for enhancing livelihoods in these regions.

A comprehensive presentation underscored the critical importance of forests and forest-related products, emphasizing their role in sustaining life by producing oxygen. The imperative to conserve and protect forest resources was emphasized. Dr. Geelani also elaborated on various training programs offered by the university, notably focusing on the lucrative domain of mushroom cultivation and its manifold benefits.
