Police arrests 02 gamblers in Kulgam, stake money seized

Srinagar January 19 : Continuing its drive against the social crimes, Police in Kulgam have arrested 02 gamblers and seized stake money from their possession.
Acting on specific information regarding gambling activities in the jurisdiction of Police Post Mirbazar, a police party headed by Incharge PP Mirbazar raided the suspected gambling site at Palpora and apprehended 02 gamblers on the spot. They have been identified as Shahid Ahmad Mir son of Manzoor Ahmad Mir and Ashiq Hussain Sofi son of Ghulam Hassan Sofi, both residents of Zadoora. Officers have seized stake money of Rs. 4500/- and a set of playing cards from their possession. They have been shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 17/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police station Qazigund and investigation has been taken up.
People found indulging in criminal activities shall be dealt as per law. Community members are requested to share information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with the local police units.

DGP chairs high level meeting to discuss effective implementation of new criminal laws

Jammu, January 17 : A high-level meeting to discuss road map for the effective implementation of new criminal laws viz Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and the Bharatiya Sakshya (BS), passed by the parliament recently was held at Police Headquarters Jammu under the chairmanship of the Director General of Police J&K R.R. Swain today.
In the context of the parliamentary intent behind the newly passed laws to bring about a paradigm shift in the philosophy and practice of criminal laws – from  the ‘penal code’ to ‘justice code’, the meeting discussed what is new in these laws and the changes and capacity building required in their efficient enforcement. Joint Director CBI New Delhi Viplav Kumar Choudhary gave a detailed PowerPoint presentation on the subject.
The DGP J&K R.R Swain while speaking on the occasion, directed for identifying the resources and tools required for effective implementation of these laws. He emphasized that the laws must be implemented in a way that ensures their effectiveness and achieve their intended objectives, directing to underline strategies including capacity building, training, technical tools so that investigation officers have the necessary skills and resources to effectively enforce the new laws and utilize modern technology in investigations.
The DGP thanked Joint Director CBI Viplav Kumar for his efforts in explaining the changes and objectives of these laws to J&K Police officers. Appreciating the fellow J&K Police officers, the DGP said that he was delighted by the kind of participation and enthusiasm with which they showed their intent in understanding and implementing these laws.
During the meeting, Joint Director, CBI, New Delhi Viplav Kumar Choudhary explained the meeting the purpose and objectives besides important features of these laws through a powerpoint presentation.

Suleman Choudhary, Shridhar Patil, Dr. Ajeet Singh, Ms Sarah Rizvi, Ms. Nisha Nathyal, Javaid Iqbal Matoo, SSP PCR Jammu, JDsP PHQ and Crime Hqrs., AIsG of PHQ, Jammu based IRP/JKAP Commandants attended the meeting in person at PHQ Jammu while ADsGP SJM Gillani, Garib Das and  Vijay Kumar, Range DIsG, District SSsP, Commandants of IRP/JKAP, Principal of Police Training Institutions/Schools, SSP PCR Kashmir attended the meeting through video conferencing.
There was a thought provoking discussion on the subject and the officers gave their suggestions and discussed the effectiveness of these laws comparing them with old laws during the presentation and at the conclusion of it.
During the meeting it was observed that the laws passed by the country’s parliament include provisions which ensure that not only the accused but the victims of crime, and the society in general too receive justice, and thrust has been given to modernize the investigation process by using technology. These laws have provisions to tackle terrorism and organized crimes more effectively, and they incorporate advancements in modern and scientific technology to improve the quality of investigations besides timeline in trials.
Additionally, the laws have provisions for increased punishment in certain offenses. It has introduced new offenses, including offenses against the state, organized crime, offenses related to terrorism, mob lynching, non-reporting of rash and negligent acts, crimes of snatching, ATM theft, Ponzi schemes, and leaked question papers.

Omar Abdullah Criticizes BJP, Expresses Confidence in INDIA Bloc for J&K Elections

Srinagar, Jan 17 : National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah has issued a challenge to the central government, urging it to conduct elections in Jammu and Kashmir simultaneously with the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, emphasizing the ‘one nation, one election’ concept. Abdullah questions the government’s commitment to this idea, asserting that if they cannot implement it in one state, it raises doubts about the feasibility of nationwide synchronized elections.
Expressing confidence in the INDIA bloc, led by the National Conference, Abdullah anticipates a resounding mandate in Jammu and Kashmir. He rules out the possibility of a post-poll alliance, emphasizing their preference for one-party rule.
Abdullah dismisses rumours of conflicts within the alliance, stating that no discussions have occurred with Congress regarding seat-sharing. He aims for the INDIA alliance to secure all six seats, including discussions on how to win seats currently held by the BJP.Criticizing the BJP’s decade-long rule, Abdullah questions their governance, particularly their reliance on religious appeals for electoral victories. He views this strategy as indicative of a failure after ten years in power.
Regarding the departure of young leaders from the Congress, Abdullah attributes it to the common political phenomenon and suggests that those who leave parties are best positioned to explain their motivations.

BJP Tactics Could Mislead Muslim Voters: Farooq Abdullah

Srinagar, Jan 17 : National Conference president Farooq Abdullah appealed to the Muslim community to stay vigilant against what he referred to as the BJP’s tactics to “mislead” them in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Addressing a Gujjar and Bakarwal conference at the Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan, Abdullah, took a firm stance, calling on the Gujjar community not to support the BJP, asserting, “Your existence will be wiped out if you support them.” He underscored the gravity of the approaching elections, expressing concerns about potential strategies employed by the BJP to secure votes.
Abdullah pointed out that the BJP has been targeting various communities, stating, “Hindus, who considered us Pakistan, have been lured by them.” He urged different communities to unite against the BJP, framing it not merely as a matter of development but as a crucial issue of existence.

Rehana Batul reviews functioning of Information Deptt

JAMMU, JANUARY 16 : Secretary Information Department, Rehana Batul today conducted a comprehensive review of the department’s working at the Civil Secretariat here.
Director of Information & PR, Jatin Kishore; Special Secretary Information Department, Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad; Director of Finance (Information), Joint Director Information Jammu, Atul Gupta;
Joint Director Information (Headquarters), Veveik Puri, Joint Director Information Kashmir, Mohd Aslam Khan; Deputy Directors Information, Films Production Officer, Field Publicity Officers, Accounts Officer, and other concerned attended the meeting.
At the outset of meeting, Director Information, Jatin Kishore highlighted the department’s achievements, including exemplary media coverage of the G20 Summit, the launch of a revamped departmental website in November 2023, and the adoption of a new logo in July last year.
Joint Director (Headquarters), Veveik Puri provided a detailed presentation, offering valuable insights into the department’s work profile and major policies, including Media Policy 2020 among others.
He informed the meeting about the department’s successful participation in the International Film Festival 2023 in Goa. Secretary Batul praised the department, stating that over 300 film shooting permissions have been granted in Jammu and Kashmir, showcasing the department’s commitment and responsiveness to the film industry both nationally and internationally.
Acknowledging the positive response from filmmakers during the festival, the Secretary remarked that  DIPR’s participation at IFF 2023 at Goa was wonderful, sending a positive message to filmmakers in India and abroad.
Expressing her vision for the department, she urged, “Trainings are crucial and should be a regular affair. The provision of the latest state-of-the-art equipment is essential for our staff to remain abreast of with ever changing environs.”
“Collaboration with national premier institutions for trainings is a step forward,” she added.
The Secretary also appreciated the routine work of the Public Relations section of the department for their dedication to providing real-time information and disseminating it to the public through press releases.
She emphasized that the PR wing of the department serves as the primary arm, responsible for disseminating programs, schemes, and other government initiatives exclusively to the public.
The meeting extensively discussed issues related to journalist accreditation, newspaper empanelments/dempanelments, and the renovation of DIPR offices in districts, Jammu, and Srinagar.

Police Attach Immovable Property of Drug Peddler in Kulgam

Srinagar Jan 16 : Police on Tuesday attached an immovable property of another drug peddler in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
Police told  that the property comprising an under construction house on ten marlas of land bearing survey number 622 has been attached under Section 68F(2) of NDPS Act 1985. 
The accused drug peddler, whose property was attached, has been identified as Barkatullah Mir son of Mohammad Abdullah Mir, a resident of Buchroo Kulgam. 
It is pertinent to mention that an immovable property, a double-storied residential house, of another drug peddler was attached on Monday in Kulgam under 68F(2) of NDPS Act 1985.

Won’t allow inimical elements to disturb peace in J&K: DGP RR Swain on Republic Day 2024

Srinagar January 16: Ahead of Republic Day celebrations, Director General of Police RR Swain has said that the police won’t allow inimical elements to disturb peace in Jammu and Kashmir and that they area ready to deal with such threats.

In an interview with KNS, the DGP also spoke about public durbar being moved out of Srinagar and Jammu headquarters, police action against drug menace and recognising of services by Special Police Officers (SPOs).

DGP RR Swain that It is a two-point program and is aimed to achieve double benefit. First, to resolve problems of our people, and second to get connected and closer to your people. Police is meant to serve people and this initiative is aimed to strengthen the bond between the two ends.

KNS: Police is resolute in wiping out drug peddling in J&K. Strict action has been initiated including seizure of property. How do you see it?

DGP: We believe that we have to go long way in this direction. We are working to fetch each and every detail of those involved in drug peddling. In every district we have taken up the task vigorously. We think those involved superficially in the trade are not sinner but victims. J&K Police is trying to identify those behind the scene. In coming three to four months, we have to map out the activities of drug peddlers at grassroots level. Heroine and other hard drug substances coming across the borders is a major challenge for us, and those would be found involved in it will be dealt strictly. In times to come the J&K Police will blacklist the involved elements permanently, besides their children won’t be provided employment in future. We are committed to spoil their lives, like they spoil our youngsters through drugs.

KNS: There is thousands of SPO’s working in J&K Police. Is there any plan in the queue to regularize their services?

KNS: We are mindful that SPO’s are part and parcel of J&K Police. They are inseparable organ of our body, and are working shoulder-to-shoulder with our forces. We are providing them perks including medical assistance. We are mulling to rope them in housing scheme also.

KNS: Ahead of Republic Day celebrations, what arrangements have been put in place?

DGP: Jammu and Kashmir being a border state, the threat will remain in place, especially when threat comes from outside borders. It is obvious that people of Jammu and Kashmir want to live their life as a law abiding citizen. They have shunned path of violence, stone pelting etc. They want to strengthen law of the land, and we can’t allow elements inimical to peace to disturb the life of peaceful citizens. We are ready to deal with such threats. Terrorists and their handlers want to continue their shops but we won’t make them succeed. We want to assure people that J&K Police stands with you, whatever the situation will be. We appeal to our people to contribute in nation building. I want to assure them that J&K Police will maintain law and order and protect your business and trade.

We have to move forward,The situation is good: General Rajiv Ghai

 The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Srinagar-based 15 Corps, Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, stated on Tuesday that while the situation is generally good in the Kashmir Valley, there is still some distance to cover.

During the inauguration of the General Bipin Rawat Stadium in Baramulla, he stated that “There is ongoing collaboration between the Indian Army, state administration, and Jammu and Kashmir Police to combat narcotics smuggling from across the border.”

Lt. General Ghai highlighted the significance of naming the stadium after General Bipin Rawat, calling it a momentous day for the people of Baramulla and the Army.

He urged the youth to aspire for a better future, while saying that the current situation in Kashmir is much peaceful.

“The situation is good, but there is a little distance that we have to move forward,” said Lt.
