Ordering inquiry against KCCI lacks context, driven by malicious intent: Sheikh Imran
Srinagar, Jan 26: Former deputy mayor Sheikh Imran has said that the directive from the Registrar of Companies J&K to the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry, initiating an inquiry into its activities and requesting the submission of financial and membership documents dating back to 2010, as well as the “Not for Profit” license, appears to lack context and is potentially driven by alleged malicious intent to harm the institution’s reputation.
In a pots on X, he said that it is crucial to emphasize that such an inquiry could be conducted directly with KCCI, obviating the need for news publication, as the intended objective could still be achieved.
He said that this form of news reporting is uncommon in the country, warranting a thorough investigation to ensure a fair and precise representation of the situation. “Additionally, the publication of news against KCCI by the Registrar of Companies is an unprecedented occurrence in relation to any other trade body in the country.”
He said that the alleged purported selective focus on the KCCI is worrisome, and there should be neither tolerance nor approval for such defamatory endeavors.
“Moreover, president KCCI Javed Tenga ought to communicate with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, LG J&K and DGP, urging their involvement to address the news issue.”
He added that simultaneously, KCCI president should advocate for further investigations into any suspected malicious intent while explicitly pledging full cooperation to Registrar of Companies.
“Moreover, a request should be made to the Registrar of Companies to abstain from publicizing exchanged letters and investigation intentions. A more prudent approach would be to reveal the results of the investigation, avoiding the creation of a narrative that could potentially defame this apex institution.”
