The Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (J&KPDP) has strongly criticized the government for imposing exorbitant water surcharges on the public. In a statement issued today, a party spokesperson expressed deep concern over the burden placed on ordinary citizens by the sudden demand for payment of water supply bills spanning several years.

The spokesperson condemned the government’s lack of empathy towards the financially disadvantaged, highlighting the unjust imposition of hefty bills by the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department. Instead of taking responsibility for their failure to issue regular water bills, authorities are unfairly blaming the public for the delay in payment.

The J&KPDP has called for an immediate amnesty and adjustment of payments, stressing that individuals from modest backgrounds will struggle to manage the substantial financial burden without undue hardship or coercion.
