In response to recent remarks made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah has vehemently defended his party, emphasizing that the NC has suffered the most from the prevalent gun culture in Jammu and Kashmir. Abdullah made these statements during the nomination filing of Mian Altaf, the NC candidate for the Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat.

Shah had accused the NC, PDP, and Congress of introducing the gun culture in the region. However, Abdullah challenged this narrative, stating that the origins of the gun culture are well known, and it has inflicted immense suffering on the National Conference. He highlighted the toll it has taken on the party, with over 3,000 senior workers, party cadres, office bearers, ex-legislators, and senior leaders falling victim to this culture of violence.

The property in question is a two-story residential house, valued at Rs. 25 lakhs and spanning 1769.635 square feet. Situated on Shamilat Section 5 land, measuring 6.5 marlas (1769.63 sqft) falling under Survey No. 952/1 in Batapora village, District Shopian, it is purportedly owned by Mahjabeen Banoo, the wife of Farooq Ahmad Najar.

This operation, conducted under the provisions of sections 68-E and 68-F (1) of the NDPS Act of 1985, is directly linked to case FIR No.21/2024 U/S 8/20 of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Shopian. According to authorities, the property was identified as having been unlawfully acquired through illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.

J&K Sericulture Director Spearheads Drive for Self-Sufficiency in Silk Production

In a significant stride towards achieving self-sufficiency in silkworm seed production and improving mulberry plant varieties in Jammu and Kashmir, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat (IAS), Director of Sericulture, embarked on a thorough inspection tour of mulberry nurseries, farms, and the Silkworm Seed Unit in Vijpara, Hajan, District Bandipora.

The purpose of this visit was to oversee the ongoing upgrades funded by a Rs. 45 lac Capex Budget, with Rs. 36 lac already allocated and Rs. 25 lac already expended. Director Ajaz Ahmad Bhat highlighted the extensive revamping of mulberry nurseries and farms to enhance mulberry plantations for abundant leaf reserves crucial for silkworm rearing. Plans include increasing poly house cuttings and root grafts of exotic and improved mulberry varieties for the next rearing season.

Once the Seed Unit in Vijpara, Hajan, Bandipora is upgraded, its production capacity is expected to reach an estimated 20,000 Double Hybrid F1 Silkworm Seeds (DFLs). These seeds will be distributed among silkworm rearers in nearby villages, significantly boosting silk production in the region.

Director Ajaz Ahmad Bhat expressed optimism about the project’s impact on the sericulture sector and local communities, foreseeing enhanced economic opportunities. He urged department field functionaries to work diligently towards achieving double production of quality silkworm seed and cocoons, emphasizing the importance of supporting silkworm rearers and farmers at every stage of the process.

During his visit, Director Ajaz Ahmad Bhat also inspected Mulberry Block H.M.T, instructing the District Sericulture Officer, Srinagar, to prioritize maintenance and pruning of mulberry plants, ensuring cleanliness and hygiene for immediate revamping.

Furthermore, in a condolence meeting at the Directorate of Sericulture Dev. Department J&K, Tulsi Bagh, Srinagar, Director Ajaz Ahmad Bhat paid respects to the late employee Shri. Bindroo. He observed two minutes of silence and directed the concerned officer to expedite processing his documents to alleviate the suffering of the deceased employee’s family.

Son Arrested for Allegedly Killing Mother in Hadipora Rafi Abad Baramulla

In a tragic incident that unfolded late last night in Hadipora village of Rafiabad, Baramulla district in North Kashmir, a son allegedly murdered his mother, who was in her late 40s. The identity of the victim has not been disclosed.

The assailant, identified as Amir Wani, also known as Gajini, reportedly attacked his mother with a sharp weapon. Amir, said to be a driver by profession, was swiftly apprehended by the police following the incident.

Over the past 24 hours, extensive rainfall has drenched the plains of Jammu and Kashmir, while higher elevations witnessed snowfall on Sunday, as per officials.Reports indicate that light to moderate rainfall prevailed across most regions, accompanied by light snowfall in higher areas, including the Gurez valley.

The Meteorological Department’s (MeT) forecast indicates the continuation of cloudy conditions with expectations of light to moderate rain and snowfall in higher regions for the upcoming days. Specifically, from April 14th to 15th, widespread rainfall is anticipated, with potential heavy rain, thunder, lightning, and gusty winds at isolated spots.

In light of this forecast, farmers are advised to halt farm operations until April 16th to prevent any potential damage from adverse weather. Additionally, temporary disruptions in surface transportation are expected in certain high-altitude areas during April 14th and 15th.

Both tourists and travelers are urged to plan their journeys carefully, taking into account the predicted weather conditions. Temporary waterlogging in low-lying areas is expected, and there’s an increased risk of landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones, necessitating caution from both residents and authorities.
