GCoE Srinagar Hosts National Conference on NEP 2020: Innovative Pedagogy and Evaluation Reforms

The Government College of Education (GCoE) M A Road Srinagar hosted a two-day national conference on Tuesday focusing on “NEP 2020: Innovative Pedagogical Approaches and Evaluation Reforms in Higher Education.” The event was inaugurated by Prof. Dinesh Singh, a prominent educationist and Chairperson of the JK Higher Education Council. The conference saw participation from notable dignitaries across the country, including Prof. A. Ravinder Nath, Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Kashmir; Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice-Chancellor of Jammu University; Prof. Manisha Priyam from the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration, New Delhi; Prof. (Dr.) Yasmeen Ashai, Director of Colleges, J&K; Prof. (Dr.) Wilayat Rizvi, Registrar of Cluster University; Prof. (Dr.) Syed Nazir Simnani, Principal GDC Bemina; and Prof. (Dr.) Ghulam Jeelani Qurashi, Principal SP College. Faculty members and research scholars from various colleges across J&K also attended.

Academicians from Delhi University, TISS Mumbai, Jammu University, and Jamia Millia Islamia were present at the inaugural session. Prof. Dinesh Singh, the Chief Guest, emphasized the essence of true education, highlighting the significance of deep-spirited activities and citing examples of influential figures like Gandhi, Kabir, Einstein, Mendel, and Milton.

In a special address, Prof. A. Ravinder Nath, VC of CUK, noted that J&K is leading the way in implementing NEP-2020. He discussed key aspects of NEP-2020, including learner-centric education, inclusiveness, holistic approaches, personalized degree design, and the academic bank of credits. Prof. Umesh Rai, VC of JU, stressed the importance of connecting education with real-life experiences beyond classroom walls.

Prof. (Dr.) Yasmeen Ashai, Director of Colleges and patron of the conference, elaborated on the conference theme. Prof. Manisha Priyam from NIEPA spoke about the national perspective on NEP-2020, covering pedagogical approaches, evaluation reforms, breaking disciplinary boundaries, comparing AI and the human mind, open book exams, and creating a knowledge society.

Prof. Seema Naz, Principal of the host college, welcomed the guests and presented an overview of the institution’s achievements in teaching, learning, innovation, internships, and infrastructure development.

The conference will conclude on June 26, 2024, with paper presentations from scholars across J&K on topics such as innovative pedagogical approaches, multi-mode teaching, and assessment and evaluation in higher education.

Police Solve Burglary Case in Budgam, Arrest Two Suspects

On Tuesday, the Jammu and Kashmir Police resolved a burglary case in Budgam district, Central Kashmir, by arresting two suspects.

According to a police spokesperson, on June 23, 2024, Police Post Humhama received a complaint from Asrar Gul of LD Colony Sanat Nagar. Gul reported that on June 15, 2024, in preparation for Eid ul Azha, he had hired a woman for cleaning services. During her time at his residence, she allegedly stole some gold ornaments.

The spokesperson stated that a case was registered under FIR No 244/2024 in Police Station Budgam. During the investigation, the woman, identified as Ruby Begum, wife of Gh Hassan Khan from Gogipora Kanihama Nowgam, was brought in for questioning. She confessed to the theft, and some of the stolen gold items were recovered based on her disclosure. She also revealed that she had sold part of the stolen jewelry to a goldsmith named Parvaiz Ahmad Bhat, son of the late Gh Nabi Bhat, residing on Tailbal Road, Rashi Mohalla Shalimar, Srinagar.

Both suspects were arrested, and gold ornaments worth 4 lakh rupees were recovered. The investigation is ongoing, the spokesperson added.

Senior Advocate Mian Qayoom Arrested in Connection with Advocate Babar Qadri Murder Case

The State Investigation Agency (SIA) wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday arrested Senior Advocate and former President of the High Court Bar Association, Mian Qayoom, in connection with the Advocate Babar Qadri murder case.

A top police officer told Rising Kashmir that the SIA wing of the department has arrested Advocate Mian Qayoom in connection with the Advocate Babar Qadri’s Murder case.

“The case is being investigated by SIA, and all angles are being verified,” he said.

Earlier, SIA announced a cash reward of Rs 10 lakh for individuals who can furnish information that assists in the apprehension of those responsible for the murder of the late Babar Qadri, a senior Advocate of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court.

“A cash reward of Rs 10,00,000 is offered to those who provide information leading to the arrest of the individuals involved in the tragic killing of Senior Advocate Babar Qadri, the son of Mohd Yasin Qadri from Zahidpora, Hawal, Srinagar. He Qadri lost his life to militants on September 24, 2020, at his residence.”

Meanwhile, a case has been registered under FIR No 62/2020 U/S 302 IPC 7/27 IAA 13/16/18/20/39 UA PA at the police station Lalbazar Srinagar, which has now been transferred to the jurisdiction of SIA Kashmir.

Qadri was shot dead by two people who came as clients to his Hawal Srinagar house and shot him dead in September 2020.

Subsequently, police formed a special team and in August 2021, they filed charges against five suspects.

When security forces eliminated Abbas Sheikh, chief commander of The Resistance Front (TRF), a shadow front of LeT terrorist group, and his deputy Saqib Manzoor, in September that year, Police underlined that Saqib Manzoor was also involved in Qadri’s murder.

ARTO Baramulla Cracks Down on Helmet Violations, Issues E-Challans and Seizes Motorcycles

In a stringent move against motorists riding without helmets, the Assistant Regional Transport Office (ARTO) Baramulla launched an enforcement drive today targeting errant motorcyclists in the district.

During the drive, 10 motorists were issued e-challans, and 5 motorcycles were seized for violating traffic norms. Show-cause notices for the suspension of driving licenses were given to those found riding without helmets. Additionally, 10 maxicabs were challaned for overloading.

Assistant Regional Transport Officer Muazzam Ali stated that the drive will be intensified in the coming days.

He emphasized that wearing a helmet is mandatory for both the rider and the pillion under section 129/177 of the Motor Vehicle Act.

The ARTO is also planning to organize a counseling program to educate applicants for two-wheeler driving licenses on the importance of helmet use. Applicants will be required to provide an undertaking to use helmets while driving two-wheelers.

DC Srinagar Rushes to Bohri Kadal Fire Scene, Assures Immediate Assistance to Affected Families

As soon as news of the fire incident in the Bohri Kadal area of Shahr-e-Khaas broke, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Srinagar, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat, promptly arrived at the scene. He personally oversaw the rescue efforts and the firefighting operations to minimize the damage.

SSP Srinagar, Aashish Mishra, along with other senior district administration officers, accompanied the DC.

At the site, the DC expressed his solidarity and sympathy with the affected families, promising immediate assistance. He directed his staff to provide all necessary support to those impacted by the fire.

The DC stated that fire tenders were quickly deployed to prevent the fire from spreading and to protect lives. He instructed officials to assess the damage to the structures and provide prompt aid to the victims.

Expressing his shock at the extent of the damage, he assured that the District Administration would offer all possible assistance to the affected families.

On Sunday, the Army reported the death of a terrorist during an ongoing anti-infiltration operation in Uri, located along the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

In a post on X, the Army’s Chinar Corps announced, “One terrorist has been killed in the ongoing anti-infiltration operation launched on June 22 in the Uri Sector; operations are continuing.” The encounter began yesterday evening after the Army thwarted an infiltration attempt along the LoC in the Gohallan area of Uri.

Security forces detected a group of terrorists trying to infiltrate the LoC in Gohallan, Uri. The forces confronted the group, successfully foiling the infiltration attempt.

IGP’s Bold Security Overhaul for Amarnath Yatra 2024: Drones, CCTVs, and Unprecedented Measures Revealed!

The Inspector General of Police for the Kashmir Zone, Shri V.K Birdi, visited the Navyug Tunnel to Chandanwari today to inspect the security arrangements along the yatra route and at various camping sites. He also chaired a meeting with police and CAPF officers.

The inspection aimed to ensure a safe and seamless pilgrimage for all participants. Emphasis was placed on monitoring, strict vigilance, and patrolling to prevent any security breaches. The security at various camping sites was closely examined, with a focus on implementing robust and sustained measures to protect pilgrims from any harm by Anti-National Elements (ANEs). The inspection included an evaluation of on-ground deployment, access control, AS check teams, their equipment, surveillance systems, and emergency response protocols.

IGP Kashmir praised the efforts of the police and CAPFs for maintaining high vigilance and preparedness and stressed the importance of maintaining this spirit throughout the SANJY-2024 pilgrimage. At Chandanwari, the IGP conducted a detailed review of the security measures in place for the yatra with police and CAPF officers. They discussed the current security scenario and strategies to further strengthen the safety of the pilgrimage.

Discussions included coordination mechanisms, intelligence sharing, and contingency plans to address potential threats. Shri V.K Birdi reiterated the commitment of the police and CAPFs to ensure the safety and well-being of all pilgrims and urged officers to remain alert and proactive in their duties.

Earlier, the IGP was briefed by officers on the proposed security measures for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra-2024. The briefing covered access control, ASCs, camp security arrangements, use of modern technical gadgets, road opening parties, laterals, and disaster management preparations.

Officers were directed to ensure better coordination and synergy with different security agencies on the ground for the peaceful conduct of the yatra. The use of modern security gadgets and technology, including CCTVs and drones, was also emphasized to enhance the security surveillance grid and thwart the designs of ANEs and terrorists.

Gunfight Erupts Between Terrorists and Security Forces in Uri Sector, North Kashmir

An encounter erupted between terrorists and security forces in the Uri sector along the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, officials reported on Saturday evening.

The gunfight commenced when security forces initiated a search operation in the Bajrang-Uri sector after receiving specific intelligence about the presence of infiltrating terrorists, according to officials.

They stated that the concealed terrorists opened fire on the security personnel, who retaliated, resulting in a gunfight.

Meanwhile, the Army’s Chinar Corps posted on ‘X’: “Based on specific intelligence inputs, an anti-infiltration operation was launched in the Uri Sector. Contact was established with infiltrating terrorists and operations are ongoing.”

Previously, on June 19, two Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists were killed, and two security personnel were injured during an encounter in the Rafiabad area of Baramulla district. Additionally, on June 17, a local terrorist was killed in an encounter with security forces in Aragam Bandipora.

Engineer Rashid’s Interim Bail Postpones in Delhi Court Hearing to 1 July 2024

A Delhi Court has postponed the hearing of Engineer Rashid’s interim bail plea to July 1. The purpose of the bail is to allow Rashid to take his oath of office.

Previously, the Court has delayed the final decision on Rashid’s interim bail plea multiple times, with the most recent deferment occurring on June 19, 2014.

Rashid, an Independent candidate, recently won the Baramulla constituency in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, defeating former J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

Rashid has been imprisoned since 2019 on charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for alleged terror funding. He is currently held in Tihar Jail.
