Ashwini Vaishnaw Presents First Made-in-India 32-Bit Chip to PM Modi at SEMICON India 2025

Union Minister for Electronics & Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, on Tuesday presented India’s first 32-bit processor chip to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the opening ceremony of SEMICON India 2025.

The presentation marks a major milestone in India’s semiconductor journey and showcases the progress of the India Semiconductor Mission, launched to boost local chip manufacturing.

Rapid Progress in Semiconductor Units

Speaking at the event, Vaishnaw said that five semiconductor units are currently under construction, with one pilot line already completed. Two more units are expected to begin production in the coming months, while designs for five additional units are progressing well.

“Ecosystem partners for chip manufacturing are all here, and today we presented the first made-in-India chip to the Hon’ble Prime Minister,” he noted.

India as a Stable Investment Hub

Highlighting global instability, the minister said India offers stability and growth.
“In these turbulent times, India stands as a lighthouse of stability. Our policies are stable, transparent, and professional. This is why global investors should come to India,” Vaishnaw said.

He explained that India’s electronics production has grown six times in the last decade, while exports have risen eight times. With demand for semiconductors rising every quarter, he urged international players to join India’s growth story.

A Vision Driven by PM Modi

Recalling the mission’s early days, Vaishnaw credited Prime Minister Modi’s vision for bringing together global experts and ensuring fast execution.
“In just three and a half years, the world now looks at India with confidence,” he said.

Covering All Key Sectors

Vaishnaw further stressed that India’s semiconductor strategy covers all important manufacturing sectors — from consumer electronics and power systems to automobiles, defence, and strategic industries
