The operation began on January 18 after a heavy gunfight in the Sonnar forest near Mandral-Singhpora, in which one paratrooper was killed and seven soldiers were injured. The militants managed to escape due to dense forest cover and difficult terrain, even as the area received more than two feet of snowfall.
Further encounters took place at Mali Dana top on January 22 and Janseer-Kandiwar on January 25, but the militants again fled deeper into the forest.
Officials said the suspension of mobile internet services has been extended till 11:59 pm on January 30, following an order from the J&K Home Department. Internet services were first suspended on January 23.
The decision was taken by the Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone, under the Temporary Suspension of Telecommunication Services Rules, 2024, to prevent any threat to public order.
Meanwhile, security forces have also launched a search operation in Pajja Morh, Nabana top and nearby areas of Poonch district after receiving information about two suspected persons. No contact has been established so far, and the operation is continuing, officials said.
