Union Home Minister Amit Shah is arriving in Jammu today, Thursday 5 February, for a three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir. This trip comes at a key time, with ongoing counter-terror operations across the region and a strong push to keep the area peaceful and developing.
According to reports, Mr Shah is expected to land in Jammu around 5 pm. He’ll head straight to Lok Bhavan for a security review meeting and might also chat with local political leaders.
On Friday 6 February, he’ll visit the Hiranagar border area to check on Border Security Force (BSF) readiness. This is especially important with recent concerns about possible infiltrations. After that, he’ll return to Jammu for another high-level security meeting at Lok Bhavan.
On Saturday 7 February, the Home Minister will travel to Srinagar. There, he’ll chair meetings and join a programme to launch several development projects before heading back to Delhi.
Extra security has been stepped up right across Jammu and Kashmir ahead of his arrival.
This visit matters a lot right now. Intense anti-terror operations are happening in places like Udhampur, Kishtwar, and Billawar. There are also searches along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB), with some suspects spotted recently.
Just before his trip, security forces killed three terrorists in separate gunfights in Udhampur and Kishtwar districts. Operations are still going on in some areas.
His visit follows a two-day trip by Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan in mid-January, who reviewed security on the ground. That came soon after Mr Shah held a big meeting in Delhi on 8 January, where he told all agencies to stay alert, work together, and build on the progress since Article 370 was removed — with the aim of making J&K completely terror-free as soon as possible.
During his visit, Mr Mohan stressed stronger teamwork to stop infiltrations and keep pressure on terrorists hiding in the hills.
Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma confirmed the schedule, saying the main focus is a security review, including border visits and meetings in both Jammu and Kashmir. He praised the government’s zero-tolerance approach to terrorism, pointing out that no local youth joined terrorist groups in 2025 — a huge step forward compared to the past.
Mr Sharma said ongoing encounters show how firmly security forces are dealing with threats: “Anyone coming across the border to challenge our forces gets a strong response and is taken out.”
National Conference spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq hoped the visit would help sort out issues in J&K. He called on the Home Minister to restore full statehood, as promised earlier.
On the other hand, J&K Pradesh Congress Committee President Tariq Hameed Karra said frequent visits like this suggest the security situation isn’t as stable as claimed. He pointed to prolonged encounters in several districts over recent months and said people aren’t getting the full picture.
He added that after the visit, we might hear the usual lines about everything being under control — and he doesn’t expect much real change.Overall, Mr Shah’s trip mixes tough security checks with visible development work, showing the Centre’s commitment to both safety and progress in the region. Stay tuned for updates as the visit unfolds.
