Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday strongly criticised National Security Advisor Ajit Doval for his remarks about taking “revenge” for centuries-old historical events, describing them as nothing more than a “dog whistle”.
In a post on X, the PDP president said it was deeply unfortunate that a senior official entrusted with safeguarding the country had chosen to align himself with what she termed a “communal ideology of hate”. She added that such statements risk normalising violence rather than promoting unity.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Her comments came a day after Doval, speaking at the inaugural session of the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue in New Delhi, said India must strengthen itself not only at its borders but also economically and socially in order to “avenge” a painful history marked by attacks and subjugation.
Responding to this, Mehbooba Mufti said that invoking revenge in the 21st century over events that occurred centuries ago was highly irresponsible. She alleged that such language serves as a signal to provoke poorly informed youth and direct their anger towards minority communities, particularly Muslims, who she said were already under pressure from multiple directions.
She further stated that the primary responsibility of the National Security Advisor is to protect the nation from both internal and external threats, not to make statements that could deepen social divisions or fuel communal tensions.
