A 16-year-old boy died after his father’s rifle accidentally fired at their home in Kishtwar district, officials said on Sunday.
The incident happened on Saturday night in Loyee Dhar village of Mughal Maidan. Officials said Village Defence Guard Pyare Lal was cleaning his rifle at around 9:30 pm when it suddenly went off.
The bullet struck his son, Anuj Kumar, a Class 10 student, who died on the spot.
A police team reached the location immediately and shifted the body to Chatroo Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Police said inquest proceedings are underway to find out how the incident happened. The rifle has been seized for forensic testing, and statements of family members are being recorded.
