Srinagar acid attack survivor

Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, renowned for leading the way in advanced medical care, recently spotlighted the powerful story of a young acid attack survivor from Srinagar who found hope and healing through groundbreaking surgical intervention and compassionate treatment.

During a press conference, Dr. Shahin Nooreyezdan, Senior Consultant in Cosmetic, Plastic, and Reconstructive Surgery, shared the details of the survivor’s incredible journey. This inspiring story underscored the hospital’s unwavering dedication to restoring not just physical health but also dignity and self-assurance for survivors of trauma.

In January 2013, the young woman was subjected to a brutal acid attack, which left her with severe burns on the left side of her face, including delicate areas around the eyes and the back of her right hand. After initial treatment at GMC Srinagar, Dr. Sameer Kaul referred her to Apollo Hospitals for specialized care.

Dr. Shahin highlighted the successful execution of complex reconstructive surgeries by the hospital’s expert team. These procedures showcased their unmatched proficiency in restoring form and function, demonstrating the hospital’s dedication to innovative treatment approaches.

An essential part of her recovery involved a multifaceted approach using advanced techniques and state-of-the-art resources. Notably, Cryolipolysis, a method typically used for fat reduction, played a key role in this case for its newfound applications in tissue repair and reducing inflammation. This technique was pivotal in managing scar tissue and facilitating faster healing.

“In addition to Cryolipolysis, the patient’s comprehensive treatment plan included Cryotherapy for scars, facial recontouring, and surgical procedures like a facelift and neck lift,” Dr. Shahin added.

Throughout her medical journey, the survivor’s treatment involved multiple complex surgeries that demonstrated the team’s exceptional expertise. The hospital’s aim was not just to repair physical damage but to renew confidence and functionality in the affected areas.

The press event also focused on raising awareness about the challenges faced by acid attack survivors. Dr. Shahin underscored the importance of recognizing the psychological and physical scars they carry and the need for compassionate care to help them rebuild their lives.

“Our mission goes far beyond treating physical injuries; it’s about restoring dignity, confidence, and hope,” Dr. Shahin said. “Each survivor we treat demonstrates extraordinary resilience, and we remain committed to helping them reclaim their lives using the latest advances in plastic and reconstructive surgery.”
