Kejriwal Calls Delhi Security Clampdown ‘Worse Than Emergency’ Over CJP Protest

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday criticised the Centre over the security restrictions imposed in central Delhi ahead of the Cockroach Janata Party’s (CJP) planned protest at Jantar Mantar.

Kejriwal described the security measures as “worse than the Emergency” and accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of being afraid of the opposition. His remarks came amid reports that senior CJP leaders had been detained ahead of the demonstration. Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

In a post on X, Kejriwal said the detention of CJP members directly from their flight showed what he described as an unprecedented level of fear.

He also accused the government of undermining democracy and alleged that the election had been won through “vote chori”, or vote theft. Kejriwal called for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and also criticised the Prime Minister.

AAP Alleges Security Restrictions at Kejriwal’s Residence

The AAP has also alleged that Delhi Police turned Kejriwal’s residence into a heavily guarded area ahead of the proposed CJP demonstration.

The security measures across central Delhi have included police deployments, preventive detentions and restrictions intended to stop protesters from reaching Jantar Mantar.

Delhi Police had earlier refused permission for the planned protest, citing security concerns and procedural requirements.

Kejriwal Urges Young People to Join Protest

On Friday, Kejriwal said that he and his family would attend the proposed demonstration. He also urged young people to join the protest.

The CJP has called for a demonstration demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over allegations of vote theft.

The planned protest has prompted heightened security across the national capital, with restrictions affecting public transport and access to several areas.

The political dispute has brought renewed attention to allegations concerning the electoral process, the right to protest and the authorities’ handling of demonstrations in Delhi.
