Health Minister Sakeena Itoo Says No Proposal to Upgrade PHC Sallar to Sub-District Hospital
Jammu and Kashmir Health and Medical Education Minister Sakeena Itoo has informed the Legislative Assembly that there is currently no proposal to upgrade Primary Health Centre (PHC) Sallar in south Kashmir to a Sub-District Hospital (SDH). The Minister said the Health Department is currently focusing on strengthening and improving existing healthcare facilities rather than creating additional hospital infrastructure. The government said PHC Sallar does not qualify for upgradation under the Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS-2022). According to the administration, districts with a population below five lakh and a functional District Hospital do not require an additional SDH under the guidelines. The government also pointed out that Jammu and Kashmir already has more Sub-District Hospitals than envisaged under the population-based norms, and therefore there is no proposal at present to upgrade PHC Sallar.
