Pahalgam Attack Suspect Hashim Moosa Killed in Yousmarg Encounter, Body Recovered in Budgam

Security forces on Wednesday recovered the body of Mohammad Asif alias Hashim Moosa, a Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist, during a search operation in the Palmaidan area of Yousmarg in Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam district. Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
The recovery was confirmed by the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps. The Army said the body was recovered along with war-like stores during an early-morning search as Operation Korag continued in the area.
The operation was launched on Tuesday following specific intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the Korag area of Yousmarg. The joint operation involved the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
According to the Army, troops detected suspicious activity during the operation and challenged the suspected terrorists. The terrorists then opened fire, leading to an exchange of gunfire in which one terrorist was neutralised. Search operations continued after the encounter.
The Army subsequently identified the slain terrorist as Mohammad Asif alias Hashim Moosa and said he was associated with Pakistan-based LeT. The operation remained underway as security forces searched the surrounding areas for any additional terrorist presence and recoveries.
Moosa Named in Pahalgam Attack Investigation
Hashim Moosa had been named by Jammu and Kashmir Police among the Pakistan nationals and LeT terrorists wanted in connection with the April 22, 2025 Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 people were killed. Reports have described him as a key suspect in the case.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police had announced a ₹20 lakh reward for information leading to the arrest of Pakistan nationals and LeT terrorists, including Adil Hussain Thoker, Ali Bhai and Hashim Moosa, following the attack.
Security officials have also described Moosa as a highly trained operative and have said he had served in Pakistan’s Special Service Group. These details have been reported by security sources and media reports.
NIA Chargesheet in Pahalgam Terror Attack Case
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed a chargesheet in December 2025 against seven accused in the Pahalgam terror attack case, including Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and its affiliate The Resistance Front (TRF). The agency said its 1,597-page chargesheet detailed the alleged conspiracy, roles of the accused and supporting evidence.
The chargesheet also named Pakistani handler Sajid Jatt as an accused and included three Pakistani terrorists who were subsequently killed by security forces. The NIA said further investigation into the case was continuing.
In July 2026, the NIA also named Pakistan-based LeT/TRF chief Hafiz Saeed in a supplementary chargesheet related to the Pahalgam attack investigation.
Search Operation Continues in Yousmarg
The recovery of Moosa’s body marks the latest development in the ongoing Operation Korag in the Yousmarg area. Security forces are continuing searches across the surrounding forested areas to check for any other terrorists and recover additional weapons or other material.
The Army has said that the operation remains in progress.
