Police have registered FIR No. 334/2026 at Sadar Anantnag Police Station under Sections 121 and 351 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The investigation into the allegations is underway.
PSO’s Allegations
The PSO, who was deployed as part of the MLA’s security detail, alleged that a verbal argument escalated into a physical confrontation. According to the complaint, he was allegedly beaten by the MLA and Umesh Bhat while carrying out his official responsibilities.
The complaint further states that the police personnel sustained injuries and subsequently approached the authorities seeking legal action. These allegations are part of the police case and have not been established by a court.
Altaf Kaloo Denies Allegations
MLA Altaf Kaloo has denied the allegations and described them as baseless.
Kaloo gave a different account of the incident, alleging that the PSO had been absent from duty for three days. He said he had informed the SSP Security about the matter and later questioned the police personnel about his absence.
According to Kaloo, the PSO reacted aggressively and allegedly pushed or grabbed him during the confrontation. The MLA said he would seek a counter-FIR against the police personnel.
MLA Seeks Impartial Inquiry
Kaloo has also urged the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, and the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Anantnag, to conduct a fair and impartial inquiry.
He has called for the circumstances surrounding the incident to be examined before any conclusion is reached.
The police investigation remains ongoing, and the competing allegations from the PSO and the MLA have yet to be resolved through the investigation or any subsequent legal proceedings.
