Is Azad, Ruhullah and Engineer Rashid Joining Hands to Form New Party? Asks Surinder Choudhary

By : Alia Kashmiri

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Wednesday questioned whether former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, National Conference MP Aga Ruhullah Mehdi and Awami Ittehad Party chief Engineer Rashid were planning to join hands to form a new political party, alleging that the BJP was using the three leaders as part of its political strategy. “The BJP has three faces in this game – Ghulam Nabi Azad Sahab, Aga Sahab and Engineer Rashid Sahab. Are these three faces going to give birth to a new political party?” Choudhary asked.

Accusing the BJP of attempting to weaken the National Conference, the Deputy Chief Minister said the party had consistently tried to create divisions within the NC.

“We have always maintained that the BJP is working to weaken the National Conference and trying to break the party,” he said.

Surinder Choudhary Questions BJP’s Role

Referring to BJP leader Ram Madhav’s remarks that BJP workers had attended a programme organised by Aga Ruhullah, Choudhary said the BJP should be questioned about its involvement rather than directing such questions towards the National Conference.

“Why are you coming to us with these questions? Ask BJP’s Sunil Sharma,” he said.

The Deputy Chief Minister also accused the BJP of misleading Aga Ruhullah and questioned the party’s intentions towards the NC MP.

“If Aga Sahab was your man, why did you stage this drama?” Choudhary asked.

His remarks come amid growing political differences within the National Conference over Aga Ruhullah’s recent political positions and his relationship with the party leadership.

The Deputy Chief Minister’s comments have added another dimension to the ongoing political debate over possible realignments and the BJP’s alleged role in Jammu and Kashmir’s political developments.
