Gavaskar, Kapil Dev Among 21 Former Captains Urging Pakistan to Provide Medical Care to Imran Khan

The initiative was led by former Australia captain Greg Chappell and marks the second letter from former international captains calling for humane treatment and appropriate medical care for the 73-year-old former Pakistan captain.
Captains Seek Independent Medical Assessment
In their letter, which was published on social media, the former captains urged the Pakistan government to allow the medical board directed by the Supreme Court to complete an independent assessment of Imran Khan’s health.
The board includes Imran Khan’s personal doctors.
The former captains expressed particular concern over reports that Khan has suffered a loss of vision in his right eye.
They called for the medical assessment to be completed without interference and for any treatment recommended by the medical experts to be provided without delay.
Appeal for Weekly Family Visits
The former international captains also urged Pakistan authorities to honour weekly family visits that had been reinstated by the Supreme Court.
They called for the visits to take place without interruption, stressing the importance of family access for Khan while he remains imprisoned.
The letter said the signatories were not seeking to interfere in Pakistan’s domestic legal proceedings.
However, they said ensuring that a court-ordered medical process was completed was a basic matter of decency.
The captains stated that their appeal was focused on Khan’s health, welfare and access to medical care rather than the legal cases against him.
Greg Chappell Leads Second Appeal
The latest letter was initiated by Greg Chappell and represents the second appeal by former international cricket captains concerning Imran Khan’s treatment in prison.
Khan, 73, led Pakistan to its historic 1992 Cricket World Cup victory before entering politics and later becoming Prime Minister of Pakistan.
His imprisonment and health have continued to attract international attention, particularly among former cricketing colleagues and sporting figures.
