IUST Vice Chancellor Hoists National Flag, Highlights Youth and Innovation for Viksit Bharat 2047

The ceremony was attended by Prof. Sheikh Aijaz Bashir, Dean Academic Affairs; Prof. Shamim Ahmad Shah, Registrar; Finance Officer Sameer Wazir; deans of schools; heads of departments; senior officers; faculty members and staff.
Romshoo Highlights India’s Progress
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Romshoo extended Independence Day greetings and spoke about India’s transformation into a country with growing global influence.
He highlighted the contributions of science, technology, education and innovation to the nation’s progress, while noting that India continues to remain connected to its rich civilisational heritage and values.
The Vice Chancellor also emphasised the important role of universities in nation-building.
Youth Key to Viksit Bharat 2047
Prof. Romshoo said India’s greatest strength is its young population and stressed the need to empower young people not only as beneficiaries of development but also as active participants in innovation, entrepreneurship, governance and social transformation.
He said the journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047 should move from opportunity to participation and ultimately from participation to ownership.
IUST Focuses on Skills, Research and Start-ups
Prof. Romshoo said IUST has been working to put this vision into practice through the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the introduction of multidisciplinary and future-oriented academic programmes.
He highlighted the university’s focus on skill development, Project-Based Learning, research and innovation infrastructure, as well as its growing incubation and start-up ecosystem.
According to the Vice Chancellor, the university’s growth in start-ups and incubatees demonstrates how higher education can help young people move from being job seekers to innovators, entrepreneurs and job creators.
Call for Universities to Connect Youth With Opportunities
Romshoo stressed that universities should increasingly serve as bridges between knowledge and society, young people and opportunities, as well as regional aspirations and national development.
Welcoming the new batch of students, he urged them to develop curiosity, creativity and compassion while embracing emerging technologies.
He encouraged students to use their knowledge and skills to address social challenges and contribute towards building a peaceful, prosperous and innovative Jammu and Kashmir.
The Vice Chancellor also called upon students to play an active role in the vision of Viksit Jammu & Kashmir and Viksit Bharat 2047.
