The Administration of Union Territory of Ladakh has ordered a magisterial inquiry into Leh violence, which resulted in the deaths of four individuals during subsequent police action.
According to an official public notice issued by the Office of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Nubra, Mukul Beniwal (IAS) has been designated as the Inquiry Officer to probe the circumstances leading to the violence and the police response.
The inquiry will focus on ascertaining the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident, including the resultant deaths of four men identified as Jigmet Dorjey of Kharnak, Rinchen Dadul of Hanu, Stanzin Namgail of Igoo, and Tsewang Tharchin of Skurbuchan.
The inquiry officer has invited individuals possessing any information, oral or written statements, or material evidence—such as photographs or video recordings—to depose before the inquiry team. The hearings will be held from October 4 to October 18, 2025, between 10 am and 5 pm, at the DC Office Conference Hall, Leh.
Officials said that the inquiry report is to be submitted within four weeks. The administration has appealed to the public to extend full cooperation to ensure a fair and transparent probe.
