He also stated that 288 security personnel lost their lives, while 802 security personnel were injured in such incidents between 2017 and 2023.

Providing details about action taken against terrorists, the minister said that 687 terrorists were killed, while 616 terrorists were arrested during the same period.

The information was shared in response to a question raised by TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, who asked the government to provide details of terror incidents in the country, including the number of civilians and security personnel killed or injured, as well as the number of terrorists killed or arrested.

In his reply, Rai explained that according to the Seventh Schedule of the Constitution, “Police” and “Public Order” are State subjects. However, the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) compiles nationwide crime data and publishes it in its annual report “Crime in India.”

He added that the available figures were compiled from NCRB reports published between 2017 and 2023, with the latest data available up to 2023.

Meanwhile, in a separate development in Parliament, Congress MP Mohammad Jawed moved a resolution seeking a no-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.

The motion received support from more than 50 MPs, after which BJP MP Jagdambika Pal, who was presiding over the House, granted permission to move the resolution.

Pal informed the House that 10 hours have been allotted for the debate and asked members to remain focused on the resolution.

According to reports, 118 Opposition MPs have signed the motion, accusing the Speaker of partisan behaviour, particularly after Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi was allegedly not allowed to speak in the House.

While presenting the resolution, Mohammad Jawed also alleged that the Speaker had wrongly claimed that Opposition women MPs were planning a physical attack on the Prime Minister, which further triggered the demand for the motion.
