Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) workers led by party leader Iltija Mufti staged a protest at the party headquarters in Srinagar on Saturday, demanding the public release of the Cabinet Sub-Committee report on rationalisation of Jammu and Kashmir’s reservation policy.
Carrying placards and raising slogans, the protesters called for the immediate disclosure of the report, which was prepared to examine concerns over the existing reservation system and suggest measures for its rationalisation. Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Addressing the protesters, Iltija Mufti said the issue directly affects the future of students and job aspirants in Jammu and Kashmir.
She said the recommendations of the committee should be placed in the public domain instead of being kept confidential.

She also alleged that government jobs in Jammu and Kashmir were being “sold” and questioned the government’s handling of recruitment and employment opportunities.
The protesters also raised concerns over Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and the residential-condition requirement, demanding that the reservation report be released and discussed publicly.
The Cabinet Sub-Committee was constituted by the Omar Abdullah-led government in December 2024 to examine grievances related to the reservation policy, particularly concerns raised by open-merit students and job aspirants. The committee was headed by Sakeena Itoo and included ministers Javed Ahmad Rana and Satish Sharma. It subsequently submitted its report to the Council of Ministers.
As of March 2026, the J&K government said the report remained under consideration by the competent authority, with no specific timeline fixed for its implementation. The existing reservation policy continued to remain in force.
The demand for making the report public comes amid continued debate over reservation in government recruitment and professional admissions in Jammu and Kashmir. In September 2025, an RTI appeal seeking information about the report was also dismissed, with the authorities citing provisions concerning cabinet papers.
