Jammu–Srinagar Train Link Begins: Vande Bharat Connects Twin Capitals for First Time in History

Jammu–Srinagar Train Link Begins

In a historic first since independence, the twin capitals of Jammu and Srinagar have been directly connected by a train service. The milestone was achieved with the launch of the Vande Bharat Express on Thursday.

The train was flagged off by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, marking a major breakthrough in Jammu and Kashmir’s rail connectivity. Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

A Historic Milestone Under PM Modi

The development comes under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with officials describing it as a landmark moment nearly 79 years after Jammu and Kashmir’s accession to India.

The service was earlier inaugurated on 6 June 2025 but remained limited to the Katra-Srinagar route for several months. The latest extension now connects Jammu directly with Srinagar for the first time.

Full USBRL Route Now Operational

With this launch, the entire 272-km Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) is now operational between the two capitals.

The mega rail project, completed over more than two decades, has finally enabled seamless and reliable travel through the region’s challenging terrain.

Officials said this is the first time Kashmir has a dependable, all-weather rail link connecting it with the rest of the country, reducing reliance on roads and flights often affected by bad weather.

Faster Travel and Regular Services

Regular train services will begin from 2 May.

Two train pairs will operate:

  • Train No. 26401/26402: Six days a week (no service on Tuesdays)
  • Train No. 26403/26404: Six days a week (no service on Wednesdays)

The journey will take around 4 hours and 50 minutes, with future plans to reduce travel time to nearly four hours.

Increased Capacity for Passengers

The new Vande Bharat service has been upgraded to 20 coaches, compared to the earlier 8-coach train running between Katra and Srinagar.

Officials said this decision was taken due to increasing passenger demand on the route.

Plans for Further Expansion

Authorities are planning to expand the service further:

  • From Budgam to Jammu
  • From Baramulla to New Delhi

These expansions aim to fully integrate Kashmir with India’s wider railway network.

Passengers Welcome the Service

Passengers on the inaugural journey described the train as a major achievement.

One passenger called it a “gift” and expressed gratitude for improved connectivity.

Others highlighted how the train will help during emergencies and reduce delays caused by landslides or road closures.

Some passengers also requested people to maintain cleanliness inside the train, stressing the importance of protecting public property.

A New Era for Kashmir Travel

The Jammu-Srinagar Vande Bharat marks a turning point for the region:

  • First direct rail link between the two capitals
  • Reliable all-weather transport option
  • Faster and more comfortable travel
  • Boost to tourism and economic activity

For residents and travellers alike, this new service offers a safer, quicker and more dependable way to move between Jammu and Srinagar.

Officials said many operators were finding it difficult to continue without a fare revision.

The current order does not include auto-rickshaws or e-rickshaws. Their fares remain unchanged for now.

However, officials have indicated that a separate review may happen later.

Mixed Public Reaction

People across Jammu and Srinagar have reacted differently.

Many daily commuters are worried about higher travel costs, especially those who use buses or shared taxis every day.

Others believe the increase was needed to help drivers and transport owners continue services.

Transport unions have welcomed the decision and described it as long overdue.

What Operators Must Do

The Transport Department Jammu and Kashmir has directed operators to:

  • Display updated fare charts inside vehicles
  • Show fare lists at booking counters

Jammu-Srinagar Vande Bharat to Start on 2 May, 20-Coach Service to Boost Travel and Tourism

Vande Bharat Express to Link Jammu

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw will flag off a 20-coach Vande Bharat Express between Jammu and Srinagar on 30 April, while regular passenger services for the public will begin from 2 May.

The new direct train service is expected to cut travel time between the twin capitals of Jammu & Kashmir, improve connectivity, support tourism and provide a reliable all-weather transport link. Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Major Step in Kashmir Rail Connectivity

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated the first direct train service between Katra and Srinagar on 6 June 2025. That service is now being extended up to Jammu Tawi Railway Station, giving passengers a longer and more convenient direct route.

This extension is being seen as another important milestone in linking Kashmir with the rest of India through rail.

Journey Through Challenging Terrain

Officials said the modern 20-coach Vande Bharat train will begin its maiden run from Jammu Tawi and travel to Srinagar through some of the most difficult mountain terrain in the region.

At the same time, another train will depart from Srinagar towards Jammu.

Before the official launch, a successful trial run of the Jammu-Srinagar Vande Bharat was carried out from Jammu to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra earlier this week.

Distance and Weekly Schedule

The train will cover a total distance of around 267 kilometres.

Railway officials said the service will run six days a week in both directions:

  • Jammu to Srinagar
  • Srinagar to Jammu

There will be no service on Tuesdays.

Modern Features for Passengers

Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal said the Vande Bharat train has been built using indigenous technology and offers a world-class travel experience.

Important features include:

  • Kavach safety system
  • GPS-based passenger information system
  • Comfortable rotating seats
  • Modern interiors
  • Faster and smoother journey

He said the service will reduce travel time and help the local economy and tourism sector.

Tourism Expected to Rise

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah welcomed the development and said it would definitely help tourism.

He noted that train capacity had been limited until now because only an eight-coach train was running between Katra and Srinagar.

Now, with a 20-coach train, many more passengers will be able to travel, which is likely to increase visitor numbers and ease bookings.

Long Journey of the Rail Project

The ₹28,000-crore rail project connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country began in the late 1990s.

Important milestones include:

  • 2005: Train services reached Udhampur
  • October 2008: First train started in Kashmir Valley
  • 2025: Valley linked through difficult Pir Panjal terrain
  • 2026: Jammu-Srinagar direct Vande Bharat begins

The Pir Panjal mountain range had remained one of the biggest engineering challenges in completing the route.

Final Word

The Jammu-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express is set to transform travel in Jammu & Kashmir. With faster journeys, more seats, better comfort and year-round connectivity, the train is expected to become a major support for tourism, trade and daily travel across the region.

Delhi High Court Grants One-Week Interim Bail to Jailed MP Engineer Rashid to Visit Ailing Father

er rashid

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday granted one-week interim bail to jailed Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid (Er Rashid) on humanitarian grounds, allowing him to visit his critically ill father.

Engineer Rashid, who is lodged in Tihar Jail in connection with an NIA terror-funding case, had approached the High Court after a Delhi court (Patiala House) rejected his interim bail plea on April 24, 2026. Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

The High Court allowed Rashid to be released for seven days. He will remain either at the hospital or his father’s residence under the supervision of at least two police officials.

Background of the Case

Rashid’s father has been hospitalised and is reportedly in critical condition, with reports earlier stating he was put on ventilator support. Rashid had sought interim bail to meet his ailing father, describing it as a last opportunity to see him.

His brother and Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) legislator, Sheikh Khursheed, had earlier termed the lower court’s rejection of bail as “nothing short of inhuman.”

Political Reactions

The decision has been widely welcomed by several political parties and leaders in Jammu and Kashmir:

  • Rashid’s own party, Awami Ittehad Party (AIP), hailed the High Court order as “humanitarian justice.”
  • Leaders from the Awami National Conference also welcomed the decision, calling it a “humane and compassionate” move.
  • Several other J&K-based parties had earlier rallied behind Rashid, urging authorities to grant him temporary release on humanitarian grounds.

Notably, Rashid had earlier been granted custody parole to attend the Parliament’s Budget session this year. He won the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from the Baramulla constituency as an independent candidate, defeating National Conference leader Omar Abdullah with a significant margin.

Current Status

Engineer Rashid is facing trial in a National Investigation Agency (NIA) case. His regular bail plea is also pending before the Delhi High Court.

The one-week interim bail is strictly for meeting his ailing father and is subject to conditions imposed by the court, including police escort.

This development comes amid continued political support for Rashid across party lines in the Kashmir Valley on humanitarian grounds.

Iltija Mufti Leads Protest in Srinagar Against Removal of Urdu from Revenue Recruitment Rules

Iltija Mufti Leads Protest in Srinagar

By: Sheikh Mohammad Isa

PDP leader Iltija Mufti on Tuesday led a strong protest in Srinagar against the National Conference-led Jammu and Kashmir government over the removal of Urdu as a mandatory qualification in revenue department recruitments, particularly for Tehsildar examinations.

Accompanied by PDP workers, Iltija Mufti staged the demonstration in the heart of Srinagar, raising slogans in support of the Urdu language and accusing the Omar Abdullah government of attacking the linguistic and cultural identity of Jammu and Kashmir. Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Iltija Mufti’s Strong Remarks

Addressing the protesters and media, Iltija Mufti said:

“We have come here because Urdu is being removed. The National Conference has attacked the Urdu language. Urdu is a part of our faith, culture, and civilisation… Urdu language is the very soul of our literature and culture.”

She further elaborated:

“We know that Jammu and Kashmir comprises diverse regions with different mother tongues — whether it is Kashmiri, Gujri, Pahari, or Punjabi — but we all know and understand Urdu. An attack on Urdu is, in essence, an attack on our knowledge, our culture, and our literature.”

Iltija asserted that the move by the NC government is not just administrative but a direct assault on the composite culture and historical identity of the region.

Background of the Controversy

The row erupted after the J&K Revenue Department released draft recruitment rules on April 10, 2026, for various non-gazetted posts in the revenue services, including Patwari, Naib Tehsildar, and Tehsildar. In the new draft, the mandatory requirement of Urdu language proficiency (which existed for decades alongside graduation) has been removed. Only a graduation degree is now listed as the minimum qualification.

Urdu has been the traditional language of administration and revenue records in Jammu and Kashmir since the Dogra era (late 19th century). It remained the link language even after 1947 and was used extensively in land records, court documents, and official communication.

The PDP had earlier strongly opposed the move, describing it as a “deliberate attempt to sideline and erase Urdu from the administrative framework” and “culturally insensitive.” The party demanded immediate withdrawal of the notification.

Political Reactions

  • PDP’s Stand: The party, led by Mehbooba Mufti and Iltija Mufti, views the decision as part of a systematic erosion of Kashmir’s linguistic and cultural heritage. They argue that since most existing revenue records are in Urdu, removing the language requirement will create practical difficulties in governance and disconnect future officers from ground-level work.
  • BJP’s Position: The Bharatiya Janata Party has welcomed the change, calling it a “course correction.” BJP leaders argue that J&K now has five official languages (Urdu, Hindi, Kashmiri, Dogri, and English), so no single language should be made mandatory. They suggest candidates should have knowledge of any one official language.
  • National Conference: The ruling NC government is yet to issue an official comment on the fresh protest by Iltija Mufti.

Broader Context

This is not the first time the Urdu issue has sparked debate in J&K. In 2025, when Urdu was made compulsory for Naib Tehsildar posts, the BJP had protested against it. The current draft rules appear to address that concern by making Urdu non-mandatory.

Several Urdu organisations and the J&K Urdu Council have also opposed the move, warning that it will create administrative hurdles as common people, especially in rural areas, are more comfortable with Urdu in revenue matters.

The protest by Iltija Mufti reflects the PDP’s strategy to position itself as the defender of Kashmir’s cultural and linguistic identity in the changed political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir.

The J&K administration has invited objections and suggestions on the draft rules within 15 days. It remains to be seen whether the government will revise the notification or stick to its stand.

AAP MLA Mehraj Malik Released from Kathua Jail After J&K High Court Quashes PSA Detention

AAP Mla Mehraj Malik Released from kathua jail

By : Sheikh Mohammad Isa

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Doda East, Mehraj Malik, was released from Kathua jail on Tuesday morning after the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court quashed his detention under the Public Safety Act (PSA).

Justice Mohd Yousuf Wani delivered the order on Monday, April 27, allowing the habeas corpus petition filed by Malik and setting aside the PSA detention order (No. 05 of 2025) issued by the District Magistrate, Doda, on September 8, 2025. Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Malik had been in preventive custody for nearly eight months (approximately 229 to 299 days) without trial. He became the first sitting MLA in Jammu and Kashmir to be detained under the PSA following the 2024 assembly elections.

Court’s Key Observations

The High Court ruled that the grounds cited in the detention order pertained only to “law and order” issues and did not meet the higher threshold required to justify detention under the PSA for threatening “public order.” The court observed that the allegations did not indicate any real apprehension that Malik was likely to act in a manner prejudicial to public order.

The judgment has been seen as a strong judicial rebuke against the alleged misuse of the stringent preventive detention law against an elected representative.

Background of Detention

Mehraj Malik was booked under PSA following a verbal altercation with the then District Commissioner of Doda over the shifting of a primary health centre and other local issues. He was lodged in Kathua jail since September 2025.

Reactions

The development has been welcomed by AAP leaders and several political parties in Jammu and Kashmir.

  • AAP spokespersons described the verdict as a victory for democracy and expressed renewed faith in the judiciary.
  • National AAP leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal, welcomed the court’s decision and called Mehraj Malik’s struggle inspiring.
  • Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and other opposition voices had earlier criticised the use of PSA against the MLA.

After his release, Mehraj Malik urged educated youth to actively enter politics to shape the future of the region.

Significance

The Public Safety Act allows detention of individuals for up to two years without formal charges or trial. It has frequently drawn criticism from human rights groups and political parties for its potential misuse to silence dissenting voices.

This verdict is being viewed as an important check on the invocation of PSA, especially in cases involving elected public representatives.

Malik’s release this morning was followed by celebrations by his supporters in Doda and Kishtwar.

J&K Administration Declares Jamia Siraj-ul-Uloom Shopian Unlawful Under UAPA Over Alleged JeI Links

Jamia Siraj-ul-Uloom Shopian

The Jammu and Kashmir administration has declared Darul Uloom Jamia Siraj-ul-Uloom, a well-known Islamic seminary in Shopian, as an unlawful entity under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967.

The action was taken through an official order issued by Anshul Garg on April 27, 2026.

Seminary Located in Imam Sahib Area

The seminary is located in Imam Sahib (Hillow) area of Shopian and is known for providing Islamic education.

It has offered religious studies and other courses to students from the region.

Reasons Given by Authorities

Officials said the decision was based on several concerns raised in the official order.

Alleged Links With Banned Jamaat-e-Islami

Authorities claimed there were sustained and hidden links between the seminary and Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir, which was banned in 2019.

The order also alleged that individuals linked to the banned group held influence in the institution’s administration and academic management.

Security Concerns

Officials said the premises may have been used for activities considered harmful to public order and national security.

They also raised concerns about possible radical influence through educational activities.

Financial Irregularities

The administration cited alleged lack of transparency in financial management, changes in fund control systems and concerns over possible misuse of funds.

Powers Under UAPA

Under the UAPA order, authorities may seal the premises, freeze bank accounts and assets, restrict activities and take further legal action if needed.

Wider Crackdown in Jammu and Kashmir

The latest move comes amid broader action against institutions allegedly linked to banned organisations in Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier this month, authorities took control of several private schools in Kashmir reportedly linked to Jamaat-e-Islami and related bodies.

No Immediate Response Yet

As of now, there has been no detailed public response from the seminary management or local religious organisations. The development is likely to trigger further legal and administrative action in the coming days.

Scenic and Fast Journey

The train will cover around 266 to 272 km through the famous Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project. Passengers will travel through stunning mountain areas, tunnels and the famous Chenab Bridge, known as the world’s highest railway bridge.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Urges Kashmir Muslims Not to Delay Hajj, Raises Concern Over Falling Pilgrim Numbers

Umar Farooq Slams Book Ban

During his Friday sermon at Jama Masjid, Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr. Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq expressed concern that this year has seen one of the lowest numbers of pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir travelling for Hajj.

He said there is a growing trend of people choosing Umrah instead of Hajj or delaying Hajj while waiting for easier conditions, such as cooler weather. Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Hajj Should Not Be Delayed

Mirwaiz said many people who can afford Hajj postpone it until they believe all worldly responsibilities are completed. He said this is not the right approach.

He stressed that while Umrah carries great reward, Hajj remains an obligatory pillar of Islam for those who have the means to perform it.

“Life and death are in the hands of Allah, and no one knows what tomorrow holds,” he said.

Perform Hajj at a Younger Age

He urged people to perform Hajj at a younger age if they can afford it. He explained that Hajj is an act of worship that requires physical effort and is easier to complete when a person has strength and good health.

He warned that delaying Hajj for too long could mean losing the chance altogether.

Appeal to the Muslim Community

Mirwaiz appealed to the Muslim community to give proper importance to Hajj and fulfil this important religious duty without unnecessary delay.

Three drug peddlers arrested in Shopian, contraband substances recovered

A woman cricketer linked to the Jammu and Kashmir T20 League, along with her brother and another associate, has been arrested in a sextortion and extortion case by Mumbai Police Crime Branch.

According to reports, the woman and her brother were arrested from a hotel in Delhi, while the third accused was taken into custody from Srinagar. Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

The accused have been identified as Farkhanda Aziz Khan (30), her brother Bazil Aziz Khan (27), and their associate Uddin Imtiyaz Wani (22).

Mumbai Businessman Filed Complaint

Police sources said the complainant is a 28-year-old businessman from Mumbai. In 2024, he reportedly came into contact with Farkhanda Aziz Khan. Over time, they began speaking regularly and chatting often.

During these conversations, police claim the woman started sending explicit messages. Later, she allegedly introduced the businessman to her brother Bazil Khan and their associate Uddin Wani.

Money Demands and Threats

Investigators said the woman later demanded money, saying she had financial problems.

When the businessman refused, she allegedly threatened to make their private chats public. Fearing damage to his reputation, the victim reportedly transferred Rs 23.61 lakh through 32 bank transactions between April 30, 2024, and January 13, 2026.

Police also found that a large part of the money was later moved to Uddin Wani’s bank account. Some money was also sent to the account of her father, Abdul Aziz Khan.

Speaking at a party convention in Baramulla, the Peoples Democratic Party president said young people in Jammu and Kashmir are facing an uncertain future because of unemployment.

She said many educated and deserving youths remain without jobs, creating deep worry among families. She also claimed that some young people are turning to drug addiction because of stress and frustration.

Questions Over Power Promises

Mufti accused the government of failing to keep its promise of giving 200 units of free electricity to households.

She said instead of helping local people, power projects were being handed over to outsiders while promises to residents remained incomplete.

Public Stress and Social Concerns

Referring to her outreach campaign called Kath Baat, Mufti said she met people across Kashmir and found widespread stress and anxiety.

She claimed many citizens feel troubled and under pressure in daily life. She also alleged that even religious leaders were being asked to check sermons before delivering them in mosques.

Mufti further said Mohalla Committees were unable to continue rehabilitation and social welfare programmes because of alleged pressure from agencies.

Sikh Community Needs Support

Speaking about the Sikh community of Kashmir, Mufti said they have always stood with the people of Kashmir but have not received enough support packages. She said the community deserves more attention and help.

Defence of PDP-BJP Alliance

Responding to criticism over the PDP’s past alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party, Mufti said her party never compromised on the rights of the people.

She added that during the PDP government, several confidence-building steps were taken, including reopening the Srinagar–Muzaffarabad Trade Route.

Mufti said the route is now closed due to drug smuggling concerns, which has hurt traders and fruit growers.

Fruit Growers Facing Problems

She also raised concerns for fruit growers, saying trucks carrying produce stay stranded for weeks on the Srinagar-Jammu Highway, while traffic is cleared quickly during pilgrimage movements.

Call for Hope

Ending her speech, Mufti urged people not to lose hope. She said difficult times do not last forever and justice will one day prevail.

Remembering a Dark Day

The attack killed 26 people, including tourists and local civilians.

Farooq Abdullah said the incident deeply hurt the region at a time when tourism and normal life were improving.

He said the tragedy pushed Kashmir backwards when people were hoping for better days.

Change in Tone After Attack

Political observers say the Pahalgam attack changed Farooq Abdullah’s public tone on security matters.

Before the attack, he strongly supported dialogue between all sides to solve the Kashmir issue.

After the killings, he questioned how talks could be defended while families were grieving the loss of innocent people.

On Tuesday, he said dialogue remains important in the long run, but ending violence against civilians must come first.

Security Operations After Attack

Following the attack, Indian security forces launched operations such as Operation Sindoor and Operation Mahadev.

Officials later said the attackers were killed after a 93-day search operation that ended on July 28, 2025.

Despite this, Abdullah said the emotional impact of the attack is still felt by many people.

Call for Peace

Kashmir Transport Strike: Why a “Chakka Jam” Has Paralyzed the Valley

Kashmir Transport Strike

The streets of Kashmir are unusually quiet today, Monday, April 20, 2026. Private transporters across the Valley have launched a full-scale “Chakka Jam” (transport strike). From Sumos and taxis to minibuses, almost all private commercial vehicles have stayed off the roads.

The protest, organized by the All Jammu and Kashmir Transport Welfare Association, is a direct response to the government’s plan to run Smart City electric buses on routes outside Srinagar. Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

How the Shutdown is Impacting Daily Life

The sudden lack of transport has created a ripple effect, making it difficult for people from all walks of life to go about their day.

  • Students & Education: This is perhaps the biggest concern. Many students could not reach their exam centers. In response, Kashmir University has announced special exam dates for those affected by the strike.
  • Healthcare Challenges: Patients needing routine check-ups or life-saving treatments faced major hurdles. Traveling to hospitals from remote villages became nearly impossible without private taxis.
  • Office Workers: Government and private employees struggled to reach their desks. While some walked long distances, many were forced to stay home, leading to a significant drop in productivity.
  • Local Businesses: Markets saw fewer customers, and shop owners found it hard to move goods or meet clients, leading to financial losses for the day.

The Root of the Conflict: Tradition vs. Modernity

Why are the transporters so angry? It comes down to livelihood.

The drivers argue that the expansion of the government-run Smart City electric buses into district routes will steal their passengers. They fear that thousands of families who depend on the private transport industry will fall into poverty.

While the public generally enjoys the comfort of the new electric buses, the local transporters feel they are being pushed out of the market without a safety net. They are demanding that the administration sit down for talks to find a solution that protects their income while still modernizing the city.

What’s Next?

As of now, the strike is a one-day protest. however, the Transport Welfare Association has warned that if the government does not address their concerns quickly, more strikes could follow.

Two US Nationals Detained at Srinagar Airport After Illegal Satellite Phone Found in Luggage

US Nationals Detained at Srinagar Airport

Security officials at Srinagar International Airport detained two US Nationals on Sunday, April 19, 2026, after a prohibited satellite phone was discovered in their luggage during routine pre-boarding checks.

Incident Overview

The discovery occurred during a standard X-ray screening of baggage. According to official reports, the device—a Garmin satellite phone—was found in the possession of Jeffrey Scott Prather, a resident of Montana, USA. He was accompanied by Haldar Koushik, a resident of Kolkata, who was also taken into custody for questioning.

Following the recovery, both men were intercepted by airport security and subsequently handed over to the local police for a formal investigation. Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Why Satellite Phones are Restricted

In India, the possession and use of satellite communication devices (such as Thuraya or Iridium phones) are strictly regulated under the Indian Telegraph Act.

National Security: Due to the sensitive nature of the region, unauthorized communication devices are viewed as a high security risk.

Legal Requirements: Travelers must obtain written permission from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to carry such equipment.

Penalties: Failure to declare these devices can lead to heavy fines, seizure of equipment, and potential arrest.

Travel Warnings

This incident highlights the ongoing strict enforcement of telecom laws at Indian airports. Earlier this year, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issued a directive requiring airlines to warn international passengers about the ban on satellite phones via in-flight announcements and overseas booking offices.

Travel advisories from the U.S. State Department also warn citizens that carrying such devices into India—even for emergency use in remote areas—can result in immediate detention.

Authorities are currently investigating the purpose of the duo’s visit and why the device was brought into the valley without the necessary permits.
