Algerian Hafizah Safaa Imane Wins First Place at International Quran Competition in Makkah
A proud and joyful moment for Muslims around the world has emerged from Makkah, where talented Algerian Hafizah Safaa Imane Benyahia achieved remarkable success at the 46th King Abdulaziz International Holy Quran Competition.
Safaa Imane secured first place in the category for complete Quran memorisation, recitation and Tajweed. In recognition of her outstanding performance, she received a prize of 200,000 Saudi Riyals, worth approximately US$53,000.
Women’s Category Introduced for the First Time
One of the major highlights of this year’s competition was the introduction of a separate category for women for the first time. Female Quran memorizers from different countries took part in the international event.
Safaa Imane stood out through her strong preparation, excellent memorisation and beautiful, melodious recitation of the Holy Quran.
The prestigious competition brought together 334 participants from 133 countries, while the total prize money exceeded 10 million Saudi Riyals.
Algeria Celebrates Safaa Imane’s Achievement
Her victory was widely celebrated in Algeria. Youcef Belmehdi, Algeria’s Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowments, met the country’s successful participants and praised Safaa Imane’s achievement in the field of Quranic education.
Her success was described as a source of great pride for Algeria and a significant achievement for Quranic education.
Safaa Imane had already made a name for herself in Quran competitions. In 2025, she secured first place in Algeria’s national Quran competition for girls under the age of 18. Following that achievement, she received several honours from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the President of Algeria.
Her latest victory in the blessed city of Makkah marks another major milestone in her Quranic journey. Her achievement is a source of pride not only for Algeria but also for Muslims around the world.
