Thousands of supporters and political workers are heading towards Budgam on Tuesday as Srinagar Lok Sabha MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi prepares to publicly announce his resignation from both the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) and his Lok Sabha parliamentary seat. The major political announcement is expected to take place at Behishti Zehra Park in Budgam, where a large gathering has been organised on the death anniversary of his father, late Aga Syed Mehdi.

Supporters from different parts of the Kashmir Valley are travelling in large numbers to attend the gathering, turning Budgam into the centre of a major political development.

Ruhullah’s decision comes amid growing differences with the National Conference leadership over the party’s electoral promises, particularly the restoration of Article 370, the release of political prisoners and the protection of Jammu and Kashmir’s political rights.
