Saudi Arabia Stops Missile Attack Near Holy City of Medina
By : Sheikh Mohammad Isa
On Thursday, the military group led by Saudi Arabia said it stopped a missile flying toward the holy city of Medina. They also destroyed a drone flying over the eastern part of the country.
The Missile Attack
The Saudi military stopped the missile high in the sky over the Medina area, but they did not say exactly who fired it.
The Houthi rebels, a group fighting against Saudi Arabia, said they did not shoot the missile. The group’s spokesperson promised again that they would never attack Medina or Mecca. These two cities are the most holy places in Islam. Medina is where the Prophet Muhammad built the first Muslim community, and Mecca is where he was born. Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Airport Delays
Because of the attacks, planes had to stop flying at the main airport in Riyadh, the capital city. Another big airport in Jeddah also had to cancel or delay many flights.
Drone Attack and Oil
On the same day, Saudi Arabia also shot down a drone in its Eastern Province. This area is very important because it is where the country produces most of its oil.
Why the Fighting is Getting Worse
The fighting between Saudi Arabia and the Houthi rebels is getting worse right now. Last month, the rebels took control of land near a very important waterway called the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait. This water route connects to the Red Sea and is used by ships to send oil and goods all over the world. Saudi Arabia and its allies are now trying to fight back and take control of this area again.
