The three leaders were detained inside an aircraft shortly after it landed at Delhi airport. Their release came amid a police crackdown on the CJP’s planned protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

CJP Leaders Detained Inside Aircraft at Delhi Airport

Flight AI 2428 landed at Delhi airport at 10.18 am. Shortly afterwards, the aircraft was directed to a remote parking area, known as bay R12, following a request from the airport’s Airside Operations Control Centre to air traffic control, according to people familiar with the matter.

Airport officials said the parking bay was changed at the last moment. Delhi Police and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel were waiting at the location before the aircraft arrived.

Dipke, Das and Ranka were detained inside the aircraft. They were later seen in public for the first time when they were taken to a court in Delhi.

Their first visuals after release also emerged on Sunday morning. The three men could be seen smiling, talking and waving at the camera.

YouTuber Dhruv Rathee Also Released

The development came hours after YouTuber Dhruv Rathee was released late on Saturday. He had also been detained and prevented from taking part in the CJP’s planned protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Around 7,000 people were detained across Delhi on Saturday during the police action against the attempted protest, according to reports. While most detainees were released the same day, the CJP leadership and Rathee remained in detention until the early hours of Sunday.

CJP Says Protest Will Continue

The release of the three CJP leaders came after the pressure group announced that its agitation would continue on Sunday.

The announcement came as Delhi Police maintained its security measures and restrictions across parts of New Delhi amid the planned protest.

The CJP had called for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, making the proposed demonstration a focus of the police action on Saturday.

Abhijeet Dipke’s Grandmother Dies During His Detention

In a separate development, Abhijeet Dipke’s paternal grandmother, Savitribai Dipke, died at the family’s ancestral home in Santuk Pimpri village in Maharashtra’s Hingoli district on Saturday.

She was 85 and had been suffering from age-related health problems. She died at around 11.30 am, hours after Dipke was detained by Delhi Police.

Savitribai had reportedly been unwell for more than a month and had been admitted to a hospital in Hingoli several weeks earlier.

The family was uncertain whether Dipke would be able to attend her last rites, as they had been unable to contact him following his detention.

The magistrate’s order releasing Dipke, Das and Ranka brought an end to their detention, while the CJP maintained that its planned agitation would continue.
