Describing the reports as completely baseless, Azad clarified that he had neither held discussions with Ruhullah nor entered into any understanding with other leaders to establish a new regional political front.
His statement comes amid growing political uncertainty in Jammu and Kashmir following recent developments within the ruling National Conference (NC), including the reported resignation of Srinagar MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi from the party and his parliamentary seat.
Azad Dismisses Speculation About Political Realignment
Clarifying his position, Azad said he had received numerous messages and recordings from people seeking clarification about reports of a possible political alliance involving him and Ruhullah.
“For the past two days, I have received dozens of recordings from people asking what is happening in Kashmir and whether I am forming a party with Ruhullah Sahib or someone else. All this is completely wrong,” Azad said.
He categorically rejected suggestions that any secret negotiations or backchannel discussions were underway to bring regional political leaders together under a common platform.
Azad Calls Ruhullah’s Exit an Internal NC Matter
Azad also distanced himself from the internal developments within the National Conference, maintaining that Ruhullah’s political differences with the party leadership were an internal matter of the organisation.
He denied having any involvement in efforts to broker an understanding between the dissident NC leader and other political figures.
Azad also rejected speculation about alleged closed-door discussions with senior National Conference leaders over Article 370, political arrangements or possible power-sharing agreements.
Political Uncertainty Grows After Ruhullah’s Fallout with NC
The speculation about a possible new political front gained momentum following Ruhullah’s reported fallout with the National Conference leadership.
Ruhullah had expressed differences with the party over several political and ideological issues, particularly its position on Article 370 and the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood.
His reported resignation has triggered discussions about possible political realignments in the Union Territory, with several leaders and political observers closely watching the developments.
Meanwhile, Azad’s clarification appears to have put an end to speculation about his immediate involvement in any such alliance.
For now, the DPAP chairman has made it clear that he has no plans to join hands with Ruhullah or other leaders to establish a new political front, leaving the political future of Jammu and Kashmir’s regional parties uncertain.
