J&K Assembly: BJP Walks Out Over Statehood Resolution

BJP members staged a walkout from the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Tuesday following a heated dispute with Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather over the statehood resolution.
The walkout came after Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma renewed the BJP’s demand for the removal of Speaker Rather. During the heated exchange, Rather told BJP members that he knew his role and duty. He also said that he would not allow “hooliganism” inside the House.
Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary defended the resolution, saying the Assembly represents the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He said the restoration of statehood is a demand shared across the region.
The BJP has said it supports the restoration of statehood but opposes including references to the 2000 autonomy resolution in the statehood resolution.
As the confrontation continued, BJP members walked out of the Assembly, disrupting proceedings over the issue.
