Egyptian TV Host Sarah Khalifa, 11 Others Sentenced to Death in Drug Case

An Egyptian criminal court has sentenced television presenter Sarah Khalifa and 11 other defendants to death in a major drug case, according to Egyptian media reports.

Khalifa, 39, who was known for presenting the crime and security programme Mission Impossible, was among 12 people handed the death penalty by a Cairo Criminal Court. Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Prosecutors accused the defendants of operating an organised criminal network involved in importing raw materials, manufacturing synthetic drugs and preparing them for distribution.

Authorities said more than 750 kilograms of synthetic narcotics and related materials were seized during the investigation. Unlicensed firearms and ammunition were also reportedly recovered.

Khalifa has denied the accusations and maintained her innocence throughout the case.

The wider case involved 28 defendants. Nine others were sentenced to life imprisonment, while seven were acquitted, according to reports. Two defendants remain at large.

The death sentences were referred to Egypt’s Grand Mufti for a non-binding opinion, as required under Egyptian law in capital cases. The defendants also have the right to appeal the verdict.

Khalifa was arrested in April 2025 as part of the investigation into the alleged drug network.

The case has attracted considerable attention in Egypt because of Khalifa’s profile as a television presenter and the scale of the alleged narcotics operation.
