She made these remarks while addressing a gathering at Government Degree College for Women Baramulla.

Calls for Respectful Debate

According to reports, the minister said she was open to discussion and criticism, but foul language on platforms like Facebook was unacceptable.

She said anyone wanting to debate issues could speak with her, government MLAs or department officials, but abuse had no place in public discussion.

Abuse Called a Humiliation

Sakina Itoo said people who use offensive language online only humiliate themselves.

She added that respectful dialogue is always welcome, while abusive behaviour damages the person using it more than anyone else.

Highlights Respect for Women in Islam

The minister said Islam gives the highest respect to sisters and daughters. She urged society to uphold those values and reject insulting language directed at women.

She also pointed to the irony of abuse being used when the leader of a particular political party is herself a woman.

Urges End to Toxic Social Media Culture

Itoo called for an end to online abuse and asked critics to engage in open discussion instead.

Her remarks come as concerns continue to grow over toxic behaviour and harassment on social media platforms in Jammu and Kashmir.
