University of Kashmir Holds Inter-Collegiate Cycle Races, Students Showcase Talent Around Dal Lake

The Directorate of Physical Education and Sports (DPES) at the University of Kashmir (KU) organised its Annual Inter-Collegiate Men’s and Women’s Cycle Races as part of the university’s annual sports calendar. Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

The event saw enthusiastic participation from students representing more than 20 affiliated colleges, along with postgraduate students from the University of Kashmir.

The races gave young athletes an opportunity to demonstrate their cycling skills along Boulevard Road while enjoying the scenic surroundings of Dal Lake.

The Men’s Cycle Race was flagged off from Lalit Grand Palace, while the Women’s Cycle Race started from Nishat Garden. Both races ended at the University of Kashmir’s Rumi Gate.

The races were flagged off by Director DPES, KU, Prof. Raies Qadri.

Prof. Raies Qadri Encourages Students to Take Up Cycling

Addressing the concluding ceremony, Prof. Raies Qadri congratulated the participants for their enthusiastic involvement and stressed the importance of encouraging cycling and active lifestyles among young people.

He said cycling can play an important role in improving physical fitness, mental well-being and overall health. He also encouraged students to include cycling and other forms of regular physical activity in their daily routines.

Prof. Qadri referred to the Prime Minister’s call for mass cycling and Khelo Bharat Niti 2025, urging students to make physical activity an integral part of their lives.

Medals and Certificates Distributed

A medal ceremony was later held at Ground B of the University of Kashmir’s Main Campus.

Prof. Raies Qadri presented medals and participation certificates to the podium finishers.

Students from the university’s Shri Pran Krishan Kaul Institute of Music & Fine Arts also performed during the ceremony, entertaining participants and guests with musical performances.

Men’s Cycle Race Results

Tasleem Muhammad of Gandhi College, Srinagar, won the gold medal after completing the race in 19:47.

Hamed Arshid of Islamia College, Srinagar, secured the silver medal with a timing of 20:00, while Muhammad Tahir Mir of GDC Beerwah won bronze after clocking 26:48.

Women’s Cycle Race Results

In the women’s category, Muskaan Naseer of Women’s College Zakura claimed the gold medal with a timing of 18:20.

Adfara Alam of GDC Pampore secured silver with a timing of 18:36, while Pakeeza Ashraf of GDC Ganderbal won the bronze medal after completing the race in 19:33.

The event highlighted the University of Kashmir’s efforts to promote sports, cycling and healthy lifestyles among students.
