Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has suddenly found himself at the centre of a royal wedding rumour, with social media claiming he is set to marry Gloria von Habsburg. But the Pakistan Peoples Party has rejected the reports as “incorrect and unfounded”.

The speculation then took a more dramatic turn when Gloria von Habsburg, a member of Austria’s former imperial Habsburg-Lorraine family, was named as the alleged bride.
There is, however, no official confirmation of an engagement or wedding.
How did the Bilawal Bhutto wedding rumour start?
The speculation gained momentum after the Presidency announced on August 27 that President Asif Ali Zardari had travelled abroad on a private visit.
His destination and the purpose of the trip were not initially disclosed.
Reports subsequently claimed that Zardari was in Europe in connection with Bilawal’s alleged marriage plans. Social media users quickly picked up the story and added their own details, including the identity of the supposed bride.
Some reports claimed that wedding preparations were already under way and that a date could soon be finalised.
Those claims have not been independently confirmed.
Who is Gloria von Habsburg?
The name at the centre of the rumour is Gloria von Habsburg, a young member of the Habsburg-Lorraine family.
She is the daughter of Archduke Karl of Austria and Francesca von Thyssen-Bornemisza and is descended from Karl I, the last reigning Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary.
The Habsburg dynasty once ruled a vast European empire, but Austria has been a republic since the end of the monarchy after the First World War.
That means the family has historical royal and imperial roots, but there is no reigning Austrian monarchy today.
The connection nevertheless gave the Bilawal story an irresistible social-media angle: one of Pakistan’s most prominent political families supposedly joining hands with one of Europe’s best-known former imperial dynasties.
What has the PPP said about Bilawal’s marriage?
The Pakistan Peoples Party has firmly rejected the reports.
Karachi Mayor and PPP leader Murtaza Wahab, who is also a spokesperson for Bilawal, described reports about Bilawal’s alleged engagement and marriage as “incorrect and unfounded”.
That is currently the clearest official response to the viral story.
Neither Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari nor his family has publicly announced an engagement with Gloria von Habsburg.
There is also no confirmed wedding date.
Why did the rumour spread so quickly?
Bilawal’s personal life has always attracted public curiosity.
At 38, he remains one of Pakistan’s most prominent unmarried political figures and is the son of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and President Asif Ali Zardari.
His position at the head of the PPP means even routine questions about his personal life can quickly become major talking points.
The timing of his father’s European visit added another layer to the speculation.
Once social media users connected the private trip with a possible wedding, the story moved rapidly from online posts to news reports and YouTube discussions.

The President’s trip is genuine.
Asif Ali Zardari travelled to Austria on August 27, 2026, on a private visit and was expected to remain there until August 31. His absence resulted in National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq temporarily assuming the functions of acting president.
What remains unclear is whether the visit had anything to do with Bilawal’s personal life.
The Presidency did not publicly link the trip to a wedding, while the reports connecting it to marriage discussions have not been officially confirmed.
Is Bilawal Bhutto really marrying Gloria von Habsburg?
