According to sources, the aggrieved MLAs arrived at the venue on Friday morning for discussions aimed at addressing their grievances and preventing further escalation of differences within the party.

The meeting assumes significance as the National Conference leadership seeks to pacify the dissenting legislators and contain growing discontent following the recent cabinet expansion.

Sources said the NC leadership had earlier asked the aggrieved legislators to keep independent MLAs out of the delegation attending the meeting with the Chief Minister and the party president.

The dissenting legislators are reportedly backed by three independent MLAs who have supported their position over the reshuffle issue.

However, Muzaffar Khan, MLA from Thanamandi, will not attend the meeting, sources said.

The legislators are reportedly upset over being overlooked in the recent cabinet reshuffle-cum-expansion and have sought intervention from the party’s top leadership to address their concerns.

The outcome of the meeting is expected to be crucial in determining the future course of the dissenting camp and the extent to which the National Conference leadership succeeds in containing internal differences.
