The auction generated total revenue of Dh65.721 million, equivalent to around ₹170.28 crore.
The BB18 number plate was the second most expensive, selling for approximately ₹17.15 crore. Meanwhile, BB80 fetched around ₹15.29 crore, while BB117 sold for more than ₹2.59 crore.
RTA officials said the results demonstrated the success of the authority’s open and online auction strategy. They highlighted transparency, fairness and equal opportunities for all participants as the key principles behind the system.
The auction attracted buyers interested in owning distinctive vehicle registration numbers. For many people, these plates are more than identification numbers; they represent personal taste, individuality and status.
A total of 60 special number plates were offered at Dubai’s 121st open auction. The collection included plates with two to five digits under different registration codes.
Short and memorable number plates often attract high bids because of their rarity and uniqueness. As a result, some buyers are willing to spend crores of rupees to secure their preferred combinations.
Dubai Introduces Online Platform for Number Plate Trading
According to the Emirati newspaper The National, Dubai is introducing a dedicated online platform to make buying and selling special vehicle number plates safer and more transparent.
The platform, called Muzad, is designed to protect buyers’ funds until ownership of a number plate has been transferred to the new owner.
The initiative aims to improve safety in a market where transactions have often taken place through social media, private agents and traditional methods.
Officials say the platform will provide a regulated online marketplace in line with RTA rules. Buyer verification is expected to build trust and reduce risks during transactions.
Dubai’s market for special vehicle number plates continues to attract interest, particularly for single-digit and other rare combinations. Their limited availability can make them highly valuable to collectors and wealthy buyers.
According to figures cited by the Muzad app, transactions involving distinctive number plates in Dubai have reached Dh1.7 billion over the past three years, equivalent to approximately ₹4,404.63 crore.
This highlights the scale of Dubai’s growing market for exclusive vehicle registration numbers.
