The programme was held at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Engineering. Students showcased their literary and creative talents through poetry recitations, cultural performances and an Arabic play.

Professor Fauzan Ahmad, Head of the Department of Arabic, presided over the event, while Dr Irshad Ahmad, former Indian Ambassador to Syria and Director of the Indian Council of World Affairs, attended as the Guest of Honour.

Programme Opens with Quran Recitation and Poetry

The event began with a recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by a Naat and the Jamia Tarana. Newly admitted undergraduate and postgraduate students introduced themselves to the audience, while some students recited ghazals.

The programme also featured the launch of the department’s quarterly wall magazine, providing students with a platform to showcase their writing and creative work.

Arabic Play Highlights Justice and Human Rights

The main attraction of the programme was the Arabic play Mahzala al-Sharaf (The Farce of Honour).

The play tells the story of a judge who delivers verdicts hastily without carefully examining individual cases, causing suffering to many people. Through a scene set in the Hereafter, the performance highlights the importance of justice, accountability and respect for human rights.

The play drew attention to the consequences of careless decisions and the need for fairness and responsibility in the administration of justice.

Dr Irshad Ahmad Recalls His Days at Jamia

Addressing the gathering, Dr Irshad Ahmad shared memories of his time at Jamia Millia Islamia and reflected on the university’s development over the years.

He said that after completing his Alimiat course at Jamia al-Falah, he joined Jamia Millia Islamia, where he completed his research thesis under the guidance of Professor Ziaul Hasan Nadvi.

Recalling his student days, he said the campus had fewer buildings and less greenery than it does today, but academic and research activities were already flourishing.

He observed that Jamia had since developed into a vibrant institution with a strong academic and research environment. He also shared experiences from his university years, explaining how they had helped shape his personal and professional journey.

Professor Fauzan Ahmad thanked Dr Irshad Ahmad for accepting the invitation and addressing the students.

Welcoming the newly admitted students, he highlighted the importance of their association with the Department of Arabic and encouraged them to make the most of their time at the university.

He said Jamia offers more than classroom education, providing students with a rich academic and cultural environment in which they can develop their abilities.

He encouraged them to participate in cultural activities, explore their talents and work towards establishing themselves in their chosen fields.
