The appointments were announced on Monday through a statement published by Khamenei’s office. The changes are part of a wider reshuffle involving senior Iranian military commanders.
Ali Abdollahi Appointed Armed Forces Chief
Major General Ali Abdollahi has been appointed chief of staff of Iran’s armed forces.
Abdollahi previously served as commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, Iran’s central military command responsible for coordinating operations between different branches of the country’s armed forces.
The Khatam al-Anbiya command plays an important role in coordinating the Iranian Army, IRGC and other security forces during military operations.
Ahmad Vahidi Confirmed as IRGC Commander
Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi has also been appointed commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, with his rank raised to major general, according to the announcement.
Vahidi is a veteran IRGC commander and former Iranian defence and interior minister. He has held several senior positions within Iran’s military and security establishment.
The latest announcement formally places Vahidi at the head of the IRGC under Khamenei’s leadership.
First Major Military Appointments by Mojtaba Khamenei
