Heightened Security in Central Kashmir After Budgam Attack and Srinagar Encounter

after Khanyar Encounter

Security measures have been intensified in central Kashmir following two consecutive incidents: an attack on non-local labourers in Budgam on Friday evening and an encounter in Khanyar, Srinagar, earlier that day, where a terrorist was neutralised.

In the Budgam incident, terrorists targeted non-local workers in Magam, injuring two, who were quickly hospitalised and are reported to be stable. Following the attack, security forces initiated search and combing operations in Budgam to track down the assailants, though no arrests have been made yet.

Additional security personnel have been deployed across the region, with increased vigilance and numerous checkpoints established to monitor movement. Officials have been conducting random vehicle checks and frisking individuals in various areas of central Kashmir.

Early Saturday, based on precise intelligence, security forces launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Srinagar’s Khanyar locality. During the operation, they encountered gunfire from terrorists hiding in the area. The encounter in Khanyar, one of a series in Srinagar’s urban zones, has led to increased security and restrictions in and around Srinagar and Budgam, as well as other central Kashmir areas.

Authorities have ramped up surveillance, implementing a drone-based monitoring system and enhanced human intelligence to ensure continuous vigilance. Key locations, including Lal Chowk, Maisuma, and surrounding areas of Srinagar, have a heightened security presence.

Security personnel, including the J&K Police and CRPF, are on high alert, particularly in high-traffic zones and strategic installations. Officials have requested public cooperation with the security protocols and urged citizens to report any suspicious activity to maintain peace in the Valley.

“Our priority is civilian safety,” stated a senior police officer. “Operations will continue until all threats to peace are contained.”
