Mr. Zahid Ahmad Naik, a dedicated research scholar in the Department of Islamic Studies, has successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis today. His research, titled “Institution of Zakah in Islam: A Critical Appraisal of its Management in Kashmir,” provides an in-depth analysis of how the Zakah system is administered in the Kashmir region, evaluating its effectiveness and identifying areas for improvement. The study aims to contribute to the understanding of Zakah as a fundamental Islamic institution and its relevance in contemporary Kashmiri society.
The research was carried out under the expert supervision of Dr. Naseem Gul, Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the Department of Islamic Studies at Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU). Dr. Gul’s mentorship provided invaluable guidance throughout the research process, which explored both the historical and modern-day practices of Zakah in Kashmir, offering critical insights into its management and potential reforms. This achievement marks a significant milestone in Mr. Naik’s academic journey, showcasing his dedication to contributing to the field of Islamic studies and the scholarly understanding of Zakah.
