Meta Description: Mehbooba Mufti calls for reinstating SRO 49 to ensure justice and merit-based opportunities for J&K youth.
PDP President Mehbooba Mufti has urged the government to reinstate SRO 49 (2018) under the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Act, emphasising its critical role in protecting the future of the region’s youth.
In a post on X, she pointed out that 65% of J&K’s population comprises young people, who have endured years of violence and instability. She highlighted their new struggle—securing fairness and merit in the admission process for higher education.
The issue gained prominence following the NEET PG results crisis, leaving many aspiring doctors uncertain about their future. Mehbooba Mufti stressed the need for swift government intervention to ensure access to super-specialty medical courses for all deserving candidates.
She shared a copy of the 2018 SRO 49 notification on her X handle, explaining how its provisions promote fairness in educational opportunities. Under SRO 49, postgraduate medical and technical course seats are allocated based on merit while safeguarding reserved categories such as Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and other disadvantaged groups.
The PDP President appealed to the UT administration to uphold justice and meritocracy in education, urging them to address the aspirations of J&K’s youth, who remain determined to build a brighter future despite longstanding challenges.
