Delhi Court to Rule on Whether Er Rashid’s Case Should be Heard by Special MP/MLA Court

A Delhi court will decide on November 20 whether the terror funding case against jailed Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid should be transferred to a designated MP/MLA court. The case, involving allegations under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), could be heard in a special court for lawmakers, as Rashid is now an elected Member of Parliament.

The matter was adjourned on Wednesday after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) requested more time to present arguments regarding the jurisdictional issue. Additional Sessions Judge Chander Jit Singh, who had earlier reserved the bail order, emphasized that the court would first address the question of jurisdiction before deciding whether the case would be heard in the regular court or in the special MP/MLA court.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Rashid, who had been granted interim bail in September to campaign for the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, surrendered on October 28 after the conclusion of his bail period. His bail was extended previously due to his father’s health issues, with the NIA not opposing the extension.

Arrested in 2019, Rashid faces charges in a 2017 terror funding case. The former MLA has been lodged in Tihar jail since his arrest. (KNS)
